Does anybody know if the DVD player in the 03's can be ordered (what is the part #?) and installed in an 02?

I got a flyer in the mail from the stealer saying you could get one installed for like $1200. It didn't have a price though. You might call your aftermarket guys at the stealer or put one in yourself.

The headliner is different in the trucks with the DVD so it's not "Plug and play"
I am installing a complete "multi media" system in my 03 that will interface with the stock GM \ Bose \ XM head unit and it will include a ceiling mounted screen similar to the factory one, I'll keep everyone posted and update my website as the system comes together.

I'm going with an Audiovox system with an 8" screen and an intergral DVD player. Since it will have wireless headsets I'm opting for an FM modulator since I rarely will use the radio speakers. I have a factory system in my Olds van and the kids almost always use the headsets.

ps, I've been quoted $2000.00 installed including three headsets, the integral DVD system w/tv tuner, and a VCP player under the seat by Waldoch who is a local conversion van company.

Jelisfc,

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I was about to go with a system that replaces both the OEM headrest with ones that have 7" screens already built in and that was $1600.

I just like the look and simplicity of one unit on the roof if it was plug and play.....putting in a whole new head liner. No thanks

You can buy the system I'm going with less VCP for $1500.00 online. I will gladly pay $300.00 extra to get it installed professionally. The extra $200 is for the VCP.

I liked the integral DVD in back because the kids also like to listen to CD's with the headphones. they are old enough to change their own discs so I don't have to monkey with any of it.

I was thinking of dual headreat mounts then you can watch a DVD and video on seperate screens but that's a lot of money for something we don't use that much. We spent 9 days on vacation last year and didn't have too many arguments about what they were going to watch.

My '03 will be here any day. As soon as I sell my old truck it'll be going in for the DVD.

I have a 10" drop down w/ dvd in my wife's sub. and it is a lifesaver w/ a 2 yr old. Just be careful we probably avg 1 customer a month that gets them stolen out of their vehicle. They are very easy to rip out of the headliner. The factory doesn't have a game hook-up like your aftermarket ones do.

Can't get ripped if you take it with you. www.mitocorp.com
Put any portable DVD player you wish on the bracket and enjoy. No cuts or headliner mods required.

AKDmax,
Got new catalog from Performance Products and on page 21 they have a 5.6" flush mounted LCD screen that is mounted into the secondary sunvisor. Do you know anything about this set up? Plug ins for DVD or games? Sound like the set up I need for my reg cab. Cost is $1112.95 Can be used with wireless headphones and mono-wired headphones. Also comes with its own remote.

Dunno how the resolution compares, but I had my new laptop equipped with a DVD drive. Definitely a larger screen! From there, a cassette adapter to drive the stereo.

I figure if I wanted REAL clarity, I'd watch it at home. This set up should be "good enough for who it's for" :D

Hey Mav,
Sounds like that would do the trick for ya. What's up with the rain in October? You have the plow on yet?
JK, The laptop idea is also good. Can be used even when your not in the truck. Very good for checking TDP while traveling.

I actually bought the laptop so I could program the ignition on my Harley with a custom curve along with the SPS system to "flash" GM computers and let's not forget the "Juicer" to update Edge boxes.

AKDmax,
Just found a portable DVD player that is about 9x8x1" thick. Folds open like a laptop and has a 7" wide screen LCD screen. Headphone jack and inputs and outputs. Made by Mitek (sp). Found it at the new Best Buy in Anch. for $350. This sound even better.

I got some pics of my cinema setup. Prices Where very resonable for everything but the head unit. Any questions just ask. Dave

While we are on the subject of monitors.......
I am looking at putting a colour LCD screen in my 2001 GMC sierra, but instead of having for the rear passengers, I want to put it at the front of the console so I can see it. I do not want to run movies to it, but rather run a video feed from 2 cameras mounted in my horse trailer to keep an eye on them on long trips or in emergency situations.

I have not found any console configurations woth this, so does anybody know of anyone who can make custom overhead consoles, or has any other ideas for mounting one on the dash perhaps? I still want it to look nice, so I dont want justa portable TV in the cab. Thanks for any help.

Cowboy,
Post #9 in this thread may work for you. I also seen a few different portable units at Best Buy other than what I posted but the one I posted (post #14)is very small and has video inputs.

Hammer Down,
I'd really like to see your setup. The link you posted is a dead end.
