View Full Version : Extendable Mirror DEFECT (FYI)
Bought a set of the Lucerix/CIPA extendable mirrors. Noticed that the passenger one is at a different angel then the driver side. Called the manufacturer and they admitted to have put the stopper pin in the wrong hole. They told me to return it.
They way I judged it was the number of fingers from the side of the truck to the mirror, Drivers side 4 plus a thumb. Passanger side two fingers. Big difference!
Just an FYI for everyone.

Wait a second. Are you sure?? Mine are at a different angle too. But don't they need to be for viewing. If the passenger unit stuck out as far as the drivers side you wouldn't see out of it??

Mine is at a different angle also?????????????????????????
FirsDiesel/ThumbScott:
Based on what the manufacture of the mirrors said there are known problems. My passenger side mirror sits so clos to the truck, I have to turn the glass all the way out to see the side of the truck and can't even see down the side of the 5 th wheel.
You guys can call the manufacturer it is MAGNA Corp. I spoke to Tom at Magna Corp. Call the people you purchased your mirror through and they can give you there number. I am doing the exchange through the company that I purchased my mirrors through. They asked no questions and knew that there have been problems.

Well my mirrors have a different angle but I have no problem adjusting the mirror to see down the side of my trailer. Since I'm towing a 32 ft. bumper pull and the truck is a CC LB it's a long way back to the back of the trailer. smile.gif
BigO, how about you do me a favor. Take a ruler and measure from the outside edge of the mirror to the window. My drivers mirror measures 15" from the mirror to the window. The passengers side measures 13". I measured in the middle of the mirror opposite the "plug" in outside edge is located. Hope that makes sense, its where the mirror is the widest.

I was waiting for the replacement mirror to come in, it is just like my original one. My measurements are the same as yours.
We can just see the side of 98" inch trailer. We get 1/2 of the trailer in it instead of just viewing down the side of it.
I called the manufacturer and they are building me a mirror that will be out about 5 degrees more. Why? They make the mirrors to fit the common manufactures of trucks. They have to come up with a happy medium to satisfy all trucks. They informed me that you can have a 10 to 12 degree difference on the passangers side mirror vs the drivers side. That makes since. However, I took the OE mirror and lined it up with the towing mirror and it is approx, 1 inch further out,on the pivot point, towards the front of the truck.
I hope this makes since and I am glad that your mirrors work great for you. Mine will soon.
:D
OK, Before we get a wave of panic going here...
The RH mirror is at a different angle than the LH.
Now think about this:
You are 5'6" and sit with the seat way forward and vertical.
Now your brother gets in at 6'1" and puts the seat back and reclines the back.
The mirror design is set to find a "happy medium" and fit average guys.
Before firing mirrors all across the country side, it is best to discuss the measurements of the print...
For the record, More Power and Tough Guy both ran the mirrors in question to RIV with no complaints.

Take a look at your stock mirrors. You'll see that the passenger side mirror sits at more of an angle than does the driver's side mirror.
This is so because the viewing angle between the driver and each mirror is different.

The passenger OE mirror angled more and slightly convex to aid rear vision....For anyone who tows, they suck. The Lucerix passenger mirror is not convex and is better suited for towing however, because of the drivers perspective it APPEARS you are unable to see as well rearview compared to the drivers side.....sit in the passengers seat, look in that mirror, then lets talk...unless Lucerix sends you a replacement seat that slides from one side of the cab to other you will not see as well out of the passenger side mirror, regardless of angle... ;)
I tow a trailer almost every day and compared to the OE mirrors they are a real help in traffic and watching my load.

No panic here. I can SEE the difference in the 2 mirrors. I also can see all the way down the side of the trailer. I am 5'11" but drive with the seat in about the middle position and have no problem seeing.
I must confess, I've NEVER had a set on my truck, as I cannot seem to keep them in stock long enough to try a set :D
That should change here in Sept.

What Lucerix needs to do with these mirrors is keep the ARMS of the mirror on the pass side the same degree as the drivers side. They then need to turn the HEAD of the pass side mirror in toward the driver. This would allow a person to see the same amount on both sides of the trailer. I can always see more on the drivers side than the pass side. The drivers side sticks out farther. My suggestion would fix this and I could retire.
I will admit maybe I jumped to conclusions when this note was originall titled. (08/22) The mirror is not a defect, all information was based on what I had and WHAT THE MANUFACTURER SAID. They have had problems with passanger side mirrors.
Maverick:
By having a mirror customed made and it being puhed out approx 1 inch or 5 degrees, this will put the arms at approx the same as the drivers side. The head won't be turned inward.

You are correct that the stock passanger mirror is at a different angel the the drivers side. Based on my comparison the extendable towing mirror is at a stronger inward angel then the stock passanger side mirror.
Thanks Guys

"By having a mirror customed made and it being puhed out approx 1 inch or 5 degrees, this will put the arms at approx the same as the drivers side. The head won't be turned inward."
My point exactly. Thats why they need to turn the mirror head toward the driver. Not the arms of the mirror.
If you push the passenger mirror out so the arms of the mirror are the same as the drivers side and try to adjust the mirror so you can look down the side of the trailer, you can't. There is not enough adjustment there. Thats why you need to turn the head so its in the same postion it is now on your truck, only push the arms out farther.
Just read my post: The arms itself don't have to longer. Just move the detent of the arms just like the drivers side and turn the mirror head in. There, that reads better.

If the mirror heads were not designed the same, right/left, they would look odd, and people would complain about how goofy they "look".
The way it is now, only the detent angle is different.
For trailers over 96" wide or for those drivers who need better rear vision for other reasons, the "west coast" style mirrors remain an alternative.

My Mirror arms are angled diferent and it seems not to matter. My problem is my mirrors (CIPA) shake. Pass one the worst. At 65-70 I can barely use it. Anyone had the same problem? I woln't even think about changing them for anything else, except maybe a set that stays still.
Been trough this several times. It seems ther are a couple possibilities ranging from loose glass (adhesive) in it's "carrier" to lock tabs broken during assembly.
Also, aftermarket bug guards, visors, etc can contribute.
Best is to contact the selling dealer to discuss troubleshooting.
chevymeister:
My mirrors came from CIPA and they do not shake. I just got back from a 500 mile trip running 70 pulling. Call them and complain and have them send you another one at no charge.
