With the winter right around the corner, I thought that it would be a good time to think about the heated wiper blades manufacturer by the Blizzard Blade. I am wondering if keeping inside the truck heated would keep the windshield warm enough to keep the snow/ice from freezing? Or do you have one of their product? If so, how was it? I am thinking about get a set from them but would like a feedback. I like the idea of illuminated switch that another member in this forum (I forgot the name, sorry) have mounted right next to the steering wheel to the left. That member use it for high idle and got the switch from radio shack. Would be perfect for controlling the wiper heater.

Geez....this thread looks familiar (plowsite.com).

I am seriously think about trying these blades out. $89 is a little steep. Better be worth it.

I think you are refering to the switch that AKDmax has in his truck.

Maverick - Yep it also was recently discussed on plowsite.com - I just want to see how well it work on a specific vehicle like our. That's why I asked here. Thanks for the link to the switch. Do you know if I can remove that mounting bracket off the switch as pictured on the link? Thanks for your input. Have you got any snow yet? I would think that you would be plowing by now.

Yes you can remove the mount. I have a none lighted switch exactly like it for my high idle on both trucks. I drilled a hole to the left of the steering column and mounted mine. Used a 3/4 spade bit and it is a perfect fit. If you take the nut off the back side of the mount the switch will come out. My switches didn't come with mounts like the lighted one but it is the same switch. I have some lighted ones comming and I am going to swap mine out also.

No snow yet. Was 59 degrees yesterday. What a joke. We were plowing this time last year. Kids had to Trick or Treat in 2 ft of snow. Maybe early next week they are saying. Ya right.

Maverick - can you check by measuring and see how wide the switch itself is? I checked the radio shack website and only info. I got was the non illuminated switch like your which should have the same dimenstional as the illuminated switch. But the dimenstional info was based on the width of the mounting bracket, not the switch itself. The reason I am asking is because I could also use those illumiated switch for controlling strobes as I discussed in a separate thread. It appears to be very close fit for three switches so I want to check to see if I have enough room for 3 switches. Thanks.

These wiper blades seem interesting...If anybody installs them on a D/A could you tell us how you routed the wires and made connections? Thanks

Diesel Lawyer - I have not really done any planning or taking a really close look inside the truck to see where to route the wires, but I think that if the truck have a snowplow prep, there should be a hole with gromnent which is probably where the wires can be routed.

To All,

The place to go with a single wire would bo to poke a hole on the firewall where the throttle cable would be on a gasser.

Plenty of room. Looking at the truck from the grill towards the firewall it is to the left of the brake booster about 6 to 9 inches. There is a hole in the firewall insulation pad about 1" in diameter.

I drilled there for my gauges and have enough room for Jigh Idle and heated blade wiring as well.

Thanks for posting the heated wipers, I will be needing a set. ;)

Here's a pic of this area:

I used a 3/4" hole saw to drill through. Don't forget to use a grommet. Inside the cab, this area is very accessible and easy to find the wires.

If the above link doesn't work, choose the first link in my sig, then the SPA DG-111 album - the next to last picture shows it the best.
