I've had a StreamLight Stinger XT rechargable flashlight for about three years, and wanted to mount it in the truck. I toyed with a few locations and thought about the center console storage area - but did not want to give up the space. It's too cramped around both front seats due to the center console....

I finally decided on mounting the charger/flashlight to the base of the rear seat (DS). It is out of the way, very accessable, and does not interfere with folding the rear seat. Unswitched 12V power was obtained from the underseat CD changer mounted close by....

I fabricated a baseplate of aluminum to reinforce mounting the charger. The OEM plastic seat base cover is sandwiched between the charger mount and the aluminum baseplate.

Pictures are posted at this link if you're interested (or click the KD exhaust/Big Wheels link in my sig and choose the StreamLight album):

BTW, the Stinger is rated @ 15K candlepower, and a new upgraded HP head/bulb are rated @ 40K candlepower. My upgrade ($23) should be here tomorrow. I also have a rechargable MagLite, and since buying the Stinger, rarely use it - although the MagLite could easily double as a very effective club for self defense

That's exactly what I am thinking about. I want to get either Mag or Streamlight flashlight and put it under the rear seat of my extended cab truck. But I was not sure if it would be ok to run it on unswitched source because I would not wnat the battery to go dead. But as mdrag said in the pics, charger uses about 150mA in trickle charge mode so I think it would be safe and fine to run it unswitched. Something to think about when I plan to install strobes this winter.

The 150ma I have in the pics is incorrect - I double checked - maintenance charge uses 100ma, the 2.5 hr fast charge 500-800ma, and the 10 hr charge 200ma.

After many years in the fire safety/ems business for GM and the city, I went through literally hundreds of flashlights including Kel-Lights and Mag-Lights. I finall discovered the Ultra-Stinger from streamlight (75,000 candlepower) and I haven't looked back. I mounted mine on the side of the front console in the passenger's leg area. Careful to put it between the open glovebox and the full forward travel of the seat. Works like a charm. Ran the wire under the console and just plugged into one of the outlets. There is a good source for these lights at good prices, and so far with excellent service http://www.brightguy.com/ check it out. So far no problem with battery drain. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
