View Full Version : Isspro Pyro Guage Sucks

DIS installed my quages in late Janauary. The pyro went crazy after one and half months later. I would be going up a hill at 900 degrees and the quage would jump down to 600 then 300 then 500 then back to 900 then back to 300 then to 600 then to 300. It is just bouncing all around. I went back to DIS and they replaced the black box. It worked fine for 4 hours then it started bouncing arould again. I took it back and they replaced the Probe in the exhaust manifold. Two weeks later which was this weekend and I took a 200 mile trip and it started bouncing all around and even would show 0 degrees going up hills. It is as though it is a short somewhere but they have replaced everything but the quage itself in the cab. But they have put in a different quage while it was acking up and the diferent gauge was doing the same thing. So it is not the gauge that is the problem. Please do not tell me my fix is Autometer because that has crossed my mind. HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN THIS PROBLEM? JK PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!!!!

BassinRVer, My gauge did that a few days ago. Sinse I was doing 50 on a very rough road I figured it was a connection problem. I traced my problem to the fuse panel where I picked up the power. I used a special adaptor that plugged in with the fuse. I pushed them in a little tighter and so far all is well. Later! Lone Eagle

If it is a loose wire at the fuse box, why can't DIS figure that one out? I will check tonight if any wires are loose or not snug.

I guess that means I need to bring my meter again. You just have to love the grimlin hunts. Do you need a license for them? tongue.gif

Our DIS Isspro EGT and boost pressure gauges and A-pillar pod set were installed about 16 months ago. Have never been a problem... Work perfectly...

The Autometer gauges I feel are more of a K-Mart type gauge, cheap. The Isspro gauges I installed a couple months ago from DIS work flawless. I would recheck all of your wire connections and wire routing to make sure you are not picking up some interference. Remember the old saying, " If you want something done right, do it yourself"!

I have checked for loose wires and have not found any. JK thinks DIS may have placed the wiring systems in a HOT area so maybe I need to telocate the wiring system. This makes since because the guage works fine when the truck is cold.

I mounted everything under the dash on mine except the PYRO wire. The control box for the pyro gauge didn't look tough enough to go under the hood. Later! Lone Eagle ;)

Well, my Isspro gauges were installed my DIS in Lubbock about a year ago now and have never given me any problems...
Wish I could make it to the SB-Bash this Saturday...you guys be sure to hoist a cold one for me, okay?
:D

I would look at the connections, and make sure the leadwire isn't routed against anything sharp/hot.
The EV series gauges do not require special calibrated leadwires, but I use them anyhow for durability.
I'm not sure what type of connectors your probe has, but most will use the ring eye/heat shrink type. I prefer to use the plug in weatherpack style ends. There will always be the bolt/ring eye connections coming from the amp box, so that is a place to look as well as where the 12v power supply/ground connections.
I have a LOT of these out there, and only one with similar problems. Just so happens that I installed this one myself.
I also had this problem a while back and it turned out to be two things.
1. Changed the wire leading into the fuse panel, as stated above.
2. The probe is used in a compression fitting in the exhaust manifold. This was coming loose and allowing the probe to lose ground. I put some blue locktight on the probe coupling threads, and it never jumped again.

I think I have it fixed. The two wires going from the probe to the Black Box was very close to on of the brake lines near the master cylinder. The brake line must have been the wires hot. There is no sign of melting of the wires but the guage quikly started acting correctly. I will monitor it and see how things go. I just upgraded to Hot Juice so I need the pyro.

Hey BassinRver;
Try checking the screw together connections between the probe wires and the wires to the black box. Mine was doing the same thing and was driving me crazy. I traced all the wires and noticed that the screws holding the connections together inline were loose and would not make good connection at times. I tightened them up, wrapped them with electrical tape and haven't had a problem with the guage since. Hope this helps. Rey Mia tongue.gif

The problem is finally fixed. Either the electrical lines were too close to the master brake cylinder/cylinder lines or too close to the Hot Juice cables. The cables from the Juice are not not grounded (if I am correct) and like RVGuy and me, were very close to are guage lines. He fixed his by moving the Juice wires away from his digital quage lines. RVGuy and I can attest that the Juice wires can cause interference with the gauges wiring.
