View Full Version : [HELP] CB mount in console.....
Looking at mounting my CB into the large useless (to me anyway) compartment just above the cup holder on my '03.
Has anyone done this???
I have two Cobras, one a front fire speaker and the other 29 NW LTD Classic Night Hawk (prefer to use the Night Hawk).
Anyone done this, tips, hints???? Pictures??? :D
Thanks, Nathan

Hi Nate,
This has nothing to do with you CB question--sorry, but I see you're from Indep and I'm in KC. Was reading one of your posts where you gave the price you paid for your Duramax. Where did you buy it? The best I could do was $42 from the $47 list.
Thanks.

Hi Linda,
I bought mine at Westfall GMC just north of 210 higway on 435, near Worlds of Fun the Salesman's Name is Charles Vitale 816-455-7262.
It was on the showroom floor and I really liked the new Carbon Metallic Color.

Not sure if this is the install you want, but I installed a Scanner and CB in the center console.
Pics are down the list here:

I plan on putting my trailer brake controller in the lower cubby hole. Is there anything behind there I should be aware of before I start drilling?

If you carefully, pry/popp out the black plastic insert, then you can see what is behind there. It is easier to work on that part with it removed. If you take a slim-bladed screwdriver and slightly press in where the tabs are, it will pop out. Slightly unnerving to do on a new truck. Luckily, a friend showed me where the tabs were in the corners. If you need a pic, I can pop it out slightly and you can see where to aim at. Someone else may have a better idea than a screwdriver, too.
While I had it out, I went ahead and drilled holes in the sides and inserted the knobs that would have normally held the CB and scanner in their respective mounts. It just allowed me to tighten the units in place and hopefully prevent any rattling and in the case of a thief, make it more time consuming and difficult to steal them.
I mounted my CB in the lower slot on my 2001. The 03 console looks slightly different. What I found was a metal piece behind the plastic that is curved right where the antenna and power wires need a hole. I cut it and the plastic with a hole saw in my drill motor. The hole in the metal, because of the curve cuts jagged so I had to do some filing. The holes are hidden so I didn't concern myself with how it looked, only getting sharp edges off. I used some plastic packing material on the sides and top and bottom and wedged it in place. Works well and easy to pull out if needed. I also added and small external speaker that I got at a truck stop CB shop (about 3 X 3) and set it in the corner of the windshield on the dash next to post. Mounted antenna on the driver side forward edge of bed. Using fire stix. It all works well. There are stick on magnets that I use on the dash and mic to hold it in place. Mounted it on the panel above the air bag switch.
I like TXDOC's antenna mount. It looks good.

That antenna mount is the brainchild of SoMnDMAX!!
I have to thank him for dreaming it up and passing it on. I don't think he has his pics up again, yet.
Thanks TxDoc,
Unfortunately, my CB is about 1 1/2 inches wider than your scanner, so I am going to have to do some major cutting on the center panel for it to fit.
Of course I want it to look like a factory install so I am really going to have to think this one out.
I really like the CB antenna mount, any more information on this other than the pictures. I am sure I can figure it out but the more info. the better!!
Someone mentioned they used a screwdriver to remove the console. I just grabbed mine and it pulled right out with a couple tugs.
There are some large plastic mounting blocks behind the lower compartment that are causing me some clearance problems.
Thanks Again everyone, if you have more pictures, please post.
I have one of the Uniden mini PRO ??? CB radios. It fits the hole very good, almost like it was made for it.
