I plan on installing a sat. radio system this weekend and I need to tap into a red/positive/hot wire that is ignition-on i.e only hot when the ignition is turned on.

Does anyone know where I can easily find and splice into an ignition-on wire ?

Thanx in advance...

Just an idea but you can use an add-a-circuit and go from IGN0 on the fuse panel. I would guess someone makes a harness adapter for that though. Try radios and more.

There is a fuse panel by your right foot. Remove the cover, and you will notice a number of openings with pins in them. Use a volt meter to find out which pins are hot with ignition on. They take a special female connector, but I have used a skinny regular one.
If you go to GMupfitter.com, and work your way through the menu, you can find a diaghram for the pins, and that can help determine which fuse they use. SEQ is one I have used, and there are SEQ fuses under the hood. I'll try to get the actual web page for the manual for you.
How many amps does the radio draw?

Thanx to all who replied.

The amp draw on the radio is very small, probably less that 2 amp.

Go to: http://www.gmupfitter.com/secure/html/publicat/ld_2002.htm
Select C/K new truck
Download as a PDF file (it is worth saving it to your hard drive). The MBEF diagrham is on page 193, and the connectors follow. Hope this helps.

I just added a circuit into the mini fuse box on the drivers side panel. A minifuse "add a circuit" cost me 6 buck and no wires were cut. I used the rear window wiper (15A) since it isn't used. Worked out great. I put the 15A right back in the main circuit line and put a 5A in for the CB I installed. Took 15 minutes to hook up the power and most of that was crimping the ring terminal for ground and soldering for extra security. :D

TLA,

Another question on the mid bussed electrical center (MBEC), Cel Ph Connector circuits. Do you know the functions of the "D circuit No. 1044 serial data link and B Circuit No.835 diagnostic signal". Are they only for OnStar or can you tap into them for other cell phone use?

Also I am researching a possible "Hughs Electronic" cell phone that can be install as hands free and integrates with radio, and built in cell phone antenna. I have been told that it is available for certain GM vehicles.

thanks,
