I am planning to move some houshold items and need to extend the sides of my 8' bed higher on a short term and intermittent basis thus do not want a big investment in the setup. I plan to use approx 3/8" or 1/4" salt treated plywood for the sides and likely get a 4X8 piece and make 2, 2X8 pieces to make each side 2' higher than the existing sides. Any suggestions cocerning what type of wood or other inexpensive materials that would make good "stakes" that would fit the stake sockets in the bedsides yet have some strength. I could whittle or taper down some 2X4's but wonder if someone has a better idea or suggestion or has made similar racks for their pickup. I will likely use stainless steel hardware to avoid rust stains and make it easier to reassemble from time to time.
