I just ordered 4 Dunlop Mud Rovers in 255/85/16 from tirerack.com. They were $96 a piece and came out to about $115 a piece with shipping. The Michelins look as if they may last another 5k miles. I wanted the mud tires because I'm tired of having to put the truck in 4wd on wet grass!

I just recently took off a set of worn Radial Rovers... same size. I got 40,000 miles with maybe only one rotation. If I rotated them a few more times I probably would've gottn 50,000 miles.\

Good tires.

Hoot,

Were they all terrain radials or mud terrain radials?

Hoot,

I'm glad you got in this conversation. I posted to you when I first got my truck asking your opinion on the Dunlop's. I'm running the ATs and much to my disappointment, they are only lasting 25 to 30k, with me rotating every 3rd oil change (about 9k miles). I had one tire separate, and am on my second set with similar mileage results.

Sounds like you have had better mileage with the RVs than I've had with the ATs. Since I have a 2WD, I am not as interested in an aggressive tire tread, but looking for something with longer tread life. What is your opinion of running the RVs on a 2WD?

Thanks,
MaxRock

Actually they were RV's. I stated AT's by mistake.

IF you have bad luck with tires, especially two sets, by all means change brands or do something different.

Everybody I talked to before I bought mine had good luck with them including a fellow at work.

Driving habits and alignment can be the difference between my good luck and your lack of.

I'm running Pro-Comps now 33/12.5-R17

Only got a few thousand on them so far.

The one seperated tire might be just a quirk or something that happened to damage it. I would use Dunlops again. I looked for 17's but they don't make them.

The tires came in Friday. Off the truck they are a tad over 33" tall. They dwarf the 235/85's. I might see some trimming in my future. I have to keep telling myself "wear out the michelin's first." That might not be hard to do smile.gif

Ok, let me try again. I didn't state my question well.

Hoot, what kind of mileage did you get from your RVs? Out of my 2 sets of ATs, I had 1 separate, could have been a fluke. I like the way the tires handle and ride, my only complaint is tread life. I drive pretty easy, the front tires wear well, good and even across the tread face. I read somewhere that the RVs may get better tread life. I was just curious as what mileage you are getting?

Thanks.

Just took some pictures of the Dunlops. They definitely look huge compared to the 235/85/16 Michelins!

I couldn't stand it any longer. I've got a few updated pictures on my picturetrail account of the mounted tires. They definitely make the truck look better. I have some minor rubbing on the drivers side front. It just barely touches the plastic liner. I've zip tied the parking brake cable. This should help it. I'm still thinking of getting some 1" blocks and cranking the bars. Anyone know where to get 1" blocks?

Now that you have had them for a few days, how is the road noise? You truck was stock level when you put them on? You said you had a slight rub, was it any worst on your off-road test in your pics? Dunlop web page says they are on BO. Depending on what you say, I may try to find some locally.

The road noise is not that bad. They definitely hum. They are just noticeably louder than the BFG All Terrain KO's on my 99 Z71. This past weekend I took the truck on some rutted out trails and hills and had the wheels at full lock and never had any rubbing issues. Like I said before I have about 5 turns on the torsion bars (to level truck). I ziptied the plastic fender well and brake cable out of the way. I've got about a half inch of clearance now.
