Would it be a bad Idea to replace the 42W light with a 60W light. I had one of mine go out and I replaced it with one of those 60w "blue light" things by Sylvania, the OEM brand. I'm thinking that there will be too much heat produced by the light and that it will melt the guts out of the factory lamp. ;)
Hey wait just a minute.....thinking....If I can smoke the lights then I'll need new ones, right? That means the factory lamps will be too "expensive" to replace. If the lights don't work and new ones are too costly...... Hey, that means I can get the Runel bumper to fix the lights! :D All I'll need to tell the wife is that the bulbs were too expensive! :D :D

Which bulb did you get to fit? I tried a 55 watt Silverstar, but the bases are different. They look similar, but when you compare them and try to install them, they are not close.

DO NOT put the high beam Silverstars in the 03 foggies....With a little persuasion they will fit but you WILL have a melt down. Just ask stupid ole me !

For what it's worth Sylvania is soon to release a Silverstar in the 42 watt version for the fog lamp replacement.

I would have bought the OEM 42 watt but they did not have them. I looked at the Silver Star, 9006, but they would not fit. I noticed that the base was larger than the stock base. It seems that the 9005 model seems to fit. I bought 9005 CB Sylvania "cool blue" lamps. The only differences I can see is that the light does not have the top covered and the wattage is up by 18 to 60w.

Just got another response from Sylvania on the lamp:

"I don't have the lamp number, but I think it might be a 9055 (I belive this is what the Avalanche is using in the fog application). Unfortunately we don't currently have plans to launch this (or any of the 9000 series which includes the 9040, 9145, 9045) in Silverstar.

Sorrry I could not be of more assistance."

Thanks for the input.

Doc, no worries, thanks.

Is there an aftermarket light that will fit that "round" hole on the 03's? I think that the wife is getting smarter. The bumper may be a dream....After having, from Aug 00, a 00' 6.0 Ext Cab, 01 PowerStroke, 98 3/4 Burb, 02 D-Max and this 03 D-Max She's gett'n a little leiry of "add-on" products. She does have a point. The only things I have taken off any of my truck are toolboxes. She is 6 months with-child and 2 months smarter? I'm think'n that I should just keep a low profile and get the aftermarket lights.

I wish Summit made a "bed toolbox"
for a SB HD CC. :(
