I am looking for ideas where to mount some rocker switches in my 02 2500HD. I know mdrag mounted some into his console by the cup holder. I would like to mount them into my overhead console by the rearview mirror that has a blank or where the air bag cut off switch is supposed to be. I have a storage cubby where that switch is supposed to be which would be ideal.Does anyone know if there is a blank out that can be put in there and if so what is the part number.I am a real bug about trying to keep it as stock looking as possible. Any info would be appreciated. :D

Don't know what truck you have but, if you have the center console then you could put switches on the side of the console as it is hollow behind the front part and kind of out of the way and not seen too easily. Just a thought out loud. :D

First Diesel,
This is the part I ordered from the dealer and It didn't look like it fit but it didn't have the spots for the switches it was all open .This is where I wanted to mount the switches, but I have a storage cubby there. Here is a question that might sound dumb, do you have to remove the dash face to install it? If this is the caseI will call the dealer and get the part back. It only cost $4.26. I am going to print Steve's pic and bring it with me so these guys know what I ma talking about. Thanks guys.

Pilot,

I can get you some part numbers when I get home this evening...you have a couple options for replacing the cubby hole with pod housing. You can get the 4 pod housing like mine which has to be ordered from GMPD or you can get the to 2 pod housing with big face plate across the top (like you would find in a Z-71 w/the air bag on/off switch) which can be picked up at your local dealer. My Aux light switch is OEM (light switch for a snow plow setup) and my auto headlight override switch is not OEM (from R&D...link above in battmain's post).

I have a "to do" item post part numbers with all my pics! :D

Steve ,
That would be great if you can get me the part numbers. I am pretty sure I was given and I returned the 2 place with the face plate across the top to the dealer yesterday. I think what was confusing was the fact that I wasn't sure if you need to take the cover off the dash to remove the cubby and replace it with the switch housing. I will be checking the site after I get to work tonight.(I work midnights and although I like the job the hours suck, but thats what happens when you are the new guy). I do have one question, even though I have a GMC Truck and you have a Chevy, the part numbers should be the same shouldn't they? We both have the same model truck just the grills are different. Yours says Chevy and mine says GMC. Thanks Again and I'll be checking in on Wed am between 1 and 3 am est.

Pilot,
The internet is a wonderful thing! I have found part numbers for you...

4 POD HOUSING: 15040484
AUX LAMPS SWITCH: 15722980

The pod has to be purchased from gmpartsdirect.com b/c it is an import part and a local dealer can't get it...this is what I was told by my local dealer.

As far as gaining access through the dash...you need to carefully remove the rounded edge face piece that goes across the top, around the radio and a/c, under the speedo, and around the headlight switch. It just snaps into place. If you lower the steering wheel all the way and put the shifter into "1" it will remove pretty easy.

Let me know if you have any more questions or need more info.

atvpilot,

The 4 Pod Housing GM Part #15040484 is listed as an export item. When ordering on two seperate occations, once from a local dealer and once from All GM Parts Online, they substituted the 2 Pod Housing, GM Part #15040483. Sending multiple emails to AllGMPartsOnline.net did not result in a satifactory resolution. I think I am finally getting the correct part from P and G Chevrolet via UPS tomorrow. I will be out of town for most of the day but I will let you know if it is the correct part and the price.

Silver Bullet - do you know if the switch part you listed for the plow light switch a momentary switch like our fog light switch, or a push on, push off switch like the cargo light switch? Also, does the switch have any labeling, symbols, or markings on it? I'm looking for an OEM momentary switch that I can use for an overdrive lockout switch.

Thanks!!

Don

Big Lake,
The switch is like the cargo switch. It has a noticable click in and out. Mine says AUX LAMPS. But this is on the face plate on the outside. I guess you could leave the face plate off or put a different one on if they make one with different wording. The yellow light comes on to the lower left of the button when in the "ON" mode.

Bullet&et
thanks for the part numbers. I went to the GMC Dealer and spoke to the parts dept and they told me the part number is 15734687. This was for the 4 pod blank. I am not sure if this is the same. The guy acted as if I was putting him out. I have written down the part numbers you gave me.I am going to stop back again tomorrow and double check his numbers and mine.Bullet can this AUX Swith be used for off road lights or AUX back up lights? Is there any kind of rating on it. Thanks again.

Pilot,
Yes, this switch can be used for aux lights...mine is for my "rolling daylight" mounted on the front of my truck. I am not sure of the rating, but I am running 2 130 watt ProComp lights with 1 relay. I got the ProComp wiring kit and used the Aux Lights switch. I am no electrical expert, so I always seek help when wiring stuff up in my truck! :D

15734687 is the blank cover plate part number.

Big Lake,
Maverick is on the money. Search 2500HD/3500 HD Trucks & Drivetrain for "ODLO". There are many guys that have installed the switch. Also check out:

atvpilot,

When I got home tonight, UPS had left a package with the correct 4 Pod Switch, GM Part #15040484. It took just a few minutes to remove the 2 Pod Switch and install the 4 Pod Switch. The 4 Pod Switch came from P&G Chevrolet-Olds-Geo in Slovan, PA. List price was $2.35 and their price was $1.54. The web address is www.pulsenet.com. Their site has a comment line for the items ordered so you can specify not to substitute any parts. Good people to deal with!

Here is a list of switches and parts that fit in the Pod location:

# 15040484 - 4 Pod Housing (Export)
# 15040483 - 2 Pod Housing
# 15734687 - Blank Cover Plates
# 15722980 - Aux Lamps Switch (# 15305931 - Wiring Harness for Aux Lamps Switch
# 12177195 - Connector for Aux Lamps Switch
# 12064764 - Locking Tabs for # 12177195 (2 needed)
# 15729517 - Fog Lamp Switch (Export)
# 15048171 - Fog Lamp Switch (Export)
# 15052073 - Ride Control Switch
# 15174508 - Over Drive Lock Out Switch

Good luck!

Thanks for the total parts lists. I will probably order from GM Parts Direct because the dealers I have been dealing with are real pain in the backside to deal with. :D

What do the export fog lamp switches look like...Are they labeled? What is the difference in the two?
