OK, guys, picking up my truck tomorrow with it's new Avant engine. Any suggestions or restrictions for break-in? What about towing? I have about 8000 lbs of car and trailer.
As always, thanks.

Good Day!
Not trying to be smart, but I guess I'd do whatever the rebuilder told me to do. I've heard these guys are REALLY good.
Blessings!

Steve just asking how much did you pay and where did you get it done. Thinking about doing the same in the near future. Did you do a total replacement with parts (injector pump, injectors, etc).

You could read Dr Lee's article 'the right stuff', about his rebuild, his breakin/ring seating. Generally, take it easy, no full throttle or redline revs to start, careful eye on temp gauge, oil change between 50 and 500 miles. If clean oil, and temps OK, can run a little harder. One goal is to have rings 'seat' at varied rpm's. Now you don't want to keep it at 1900rpm for efficiency. A number of more professional members have had their oil analysed at first few changes. First oil change considered most important by many--lots undesirable crap accumulates in new-engine oil.
I ran mine easy with short up & down revs while driving, ie: take it up to 35mph then down to 20mph or so then increase up to 50-60 etc, but drop down as well. No jack Rabbit  starts etc. Jamie can give you details on the break-in procedure. As mentioned above, drop the oil after 500-1000 miles to get any metal, dust etc out of the system. 8000 lbs truck and trailer is not much, some utility trucks weigh that and more. Any serious towing in mountains and heat I'd wait for 2000 miles. Use common sence and you will be fine. Godd luck and enjoy the ride. ;)
