Bleeder Screw

Should the water bleeder be used on a regular basis on the fuel filter or only when problems are encountered?

Whats the best way to get to it?

I just changed my fuel filter yesterday. It had about 12,500 miles on it. I don't even check the filter for water anymore. I opened it before I removed the filter and nothing came out.

I wouldn't mess with it unless the light comes on. The more you mess with it the more likely it is to leak. If the light comes on simply loosen the drain and pump the primer until all of the water is removed. I leave about two foot of rubber vacuum line attached to mine incase I ever have to drain it, I don't want the fuel to run down on my frame and remove the rust proofing. BTW if the light ever comes on do something about it immedately, water is very bad for Diesel injection systems. Use of a good emulsfying fuel additive should keep the water in suspension and keep you from having problems.
