I checked my oil today and it was high so I decided to change it. I got 13 quarts out of it. So 3 quarts had to be diesel fuel. Checked injecter balancing rates and they are all 2.7 or lower. SO I dont know what the problem is. Stock fuel system with 79,700 miles on it.

How about injector return lines leaking?

Thats kinda what I was thinking, becuase if I remember right, there are only a couple of things that could cause this.

you may want to check max. attainable rail pressure if you have access to a Tech 2.if you can't reach 160 mpa (22,500 psi)you probably have an inj. leaking internally, & balancing rates will not be affected. If so , perform inj. return rate test to determine which inj.

Hey, I know what it is :D :D ;)

Were you running the box that you have listed for sale?

i guess that's as good a guess as anything.

Whiteduramax, I had an internal fuel leak also. It only happened when I had the Van Aaken box on. After pulling the engine apart several times, we found porosity issues in the cast aluminum head. With enough pressure, you could flow fuel into the engine (so said GM). We changed one head and all was good.

geez ddog62, read his signature then get back with us.

Here's a not so subtle hint: he's probably the person working on it. ;)

well, that's about the only way he can be that sure. His signature does not list a crystal ball.

Crystal ball? I wish, is that like the computer thingy that we techs have to plug into tell us whats wrong witha car :D :D :D

DD62, lets just say I can see the problem for here ;)

There are three known causes for a fuel/oil dilution problem.

1- Leaking fuel return lines/fittings.
2- Cracked injector housings.
3- Very rare - leaking front seal in the Bosch high pressure pump.

The cracked injector housing issue affected only a small percentage of one model year, before Bosch was notified that a problem existed, and they then corrected the problem. I suspect a machining, assembly or alloy issue developed after the first year or so of production.

As in all of our troubleshooting philosophy, unless you know with certainty what part is defective, eliminate the less costly - less intrusive possibilities before suspecting the more expensive - more intrusive possibilities.

I think what Eric is trying to say is that the dye trail from #6 return fitting was a dead giveaway...

Go ahead and make fun of dieseldog. The techs at my dealer can't find a problem unless there are broken parts on ground under the rig or a code that says "look here" with an arrow pointing to it. I'm not sure a crystal ball would help.

Jk, I wasnt running the box on my truck then, my buddy has this box now. I was acutally running stock the whole week, that I found the problem. It was very cold that week, so I had everything off. Eric, is it going to be done by the end of the week? Did you get the "parts"?

NOpe, still waiting for the "parts" hopefully tomarrow. That way you can have it back when you want it
