I got the DMAX tick It showed up at the diesel pump today, Darn. I Changes to Rotella T on wednesday and towed my camper 500 miles round trip. Filling up after unhitching the camper I went to fill up and I noticed the tick.

My 03 ticks as well. Somedays it ticks like crazy, somedays not at all....
Whats the deal with that? Where is it coming from, mine will do it on and off also..

It's generally believed to be caused by cavitation/air bubbles in the oil galleries. The high oil pressure (60psi) and piston oil cooler nozzles are the likely source. Providing it sounds like someone typing and not a regular half/full engine speed regular clicking, ticking or tapping, you can ignore it.

Mine had it, and now its gone, at 12k mi. Switched to Mobil Delvac-1, and that seemed to help, but could be coincidental. Anyway, don't sweat it- it'll probably go away by itself.

I'm at 60,000 and it still comes and goes, seems to be worst with fresh oil.

Mine did it new but stopped after 3k miles. Rotella 15-40. Friends 03 with 10k miles still does it.

My '03 has never had the tick. 13,600 miles.

So that's what that is! I just picked my 03 up Saturday. It was ticking on an uneven rhythm. Nothing major. As a matter of fact, it almost sounds like a relay flipping back and forth or like the ticking you would hear from a spark plug, but without the consistent rhythm of either of those.
Being my first diesel, I decided it must just be a sound the engine makes as nothing seemed odd per the guages. I was even considering taking it to the dealer to have them check it out, but didn't want to sound like an idiot.
So you think it will go away? I have 212 miles on it and it is still doing it. :D

Not to worry . 99% of all the D-Max's on the road tick. I have noticed it does it when I first change the oil after 800 to 1,000 miles it goes away.
