Towing in the Rockies

We just got back from a 2100 mile vacation here in the Rockies. We went from northern Utah up through Wyoming to South Dakota, up and all the the way across Montana to Butte and back home through Idaho. Except for South Dakota it was all hills. I pulled all but one hill it OD. Homestake pass east of Butte is several miles long and is better that 6% in places. The EGTs started to go into the red so I kicked it down to 4th. I pulled a lot of 1100 to 1150 degrees. The wind does more to keep the temp up than the hills. We averaged 11.9 towing our 10K fiver. I would not recommend the Juice without gauges. Later! Do you still have the stock exhaust system??

Yes I do Larry. I thought about a 4" every time I saw 1100+. I would put one on if I could get rid of 150 or more. Later! Lone Eagle

If you haven't done so already you should compare your stock EGT's to running with the juice. Those numbers don't seem high at all to me, based on what others have posted. There are of course many variables to consider but you may be suprised by the results. --Nick

Thanks Nixter, I thought about that on the way home but was too tired to mess with it. I will reprogram one of the modes to "O" next trip so I can switch back and fourth. Later! Lone Eagle ;)

What HP setting are you using when towing. I'm considering a module. Sounds to be what I'm looking for, I tow about the same weight.
