I own a 2001 Chevy Duramax Diesel 2500HD pickup with 54,000 miles on it, and the bearing in the belt tensioner went out just yesterday. Has anyone else experienced such a problem? I also found out the belt tensioner is not covered under warranty and will cost around $210.00 to get fixed.

Try this link. The belt tensioner was redesigned for the 2002 model year.

I Have the same problem but it is not completely out yet. I'm waiting on DMAXALLITECH to get me one for $87. It is an easy install but I borrowed/tried one from a 2002, It is not the same(round looking) and it didn't fit.

Change the belt and go with a Goodyear Gator back! I changed mine out at about 30k (now have 40k) and the belt tensioner stoped bouncing around, and think should help with the life of my tensioner. Best belt you can put on IMHO!

I replaced the bearing in the tensioner and that didn't seem to work. Had to break the bank and buy a new assembly then the noise stopped. Still don't understand why the new bearing didn't change anything but is was cheap and easy to do.

Sounds like the shaft was worn enough to still cause a noise.
Defect maybe? There is no reason for these to go out so early. I had a 200o z71 with 143k on it and the belt tensioner never had a problem. With the limited rpm's that we are turning these should last a lifetime.
Just my two coppers..

I replaced mine at 40,000 miles - only piece on my truck that has been replaced (except tires, filters and a couple of bulbs) in over 2 years and 76,000 miles. I was heading out for Florida and a couple weeks on the road, so I paid $110.00 for the part from a local Stealer and popped it on in about 15 minutes.
