View Full Version : DHRA Finals @ Byron Dragway
Awesome job all Duramaxes. Congrats Bobby and Josh for running in the 11's(11.77-11.96/116.9 )Good to see Brandon all the way from Georgia(and his lovely wife).12.40's and JK for 12.60's.(not to shabby John for a single box and a truck that needs 2 zip codes)Great job.
Sorry Mike to see you give up the points win to that D---e. Great year though.Well at least we drive them daily and with full interiors. Once again great Day.
Did what I set out to do. Break into the 12's! Now to get the converter tightened up..
It was a good day at the track. There were some fast trucks there and the Byron dragway went all out on the track prep for the trucks.
It was good to see the usual cast of characters there and Eric McBride ran a nice event. I made my best diesel only pass, 12.8 @ 104 and 12.4 @ 110 on the squeeze. John Kennedy hustled a 12.6 @ 106 in his heavy long bed bus with the VA. I am still amazed that a truck that big can roll through the traps in the 12's.
John had the portable grill setup for brats and it was a tasty lunch! :D
I have good video footage of the event and I am working on combining it with some Atlanta drag racing footage for a DVD if anyone is interested in having a copy.
I had fun running with you guys up North, now you gotta start coming down South to the quick tracks... ;)

Soon as you have a list of events in the area lemme know. May have to trailer next season's project down as you guys can run year round!
I'll be sure to start off with a full bottle next time. I finished down at under 600 psi on my 12.6 pass...
Nice! I'm sure lunch was after the runs....wouldn't want all that extra weight.
Yup, I bought me a good used Holland Companion grill from Tough Guy. Problem is, SOMEONE forgot to pack the gas valve  when he shipped it to me. Thankfully, I had one from my old POS grill, and robbed it for the day...

I didn't know you were down there BMDMAX!
I had my FORD down there.. The big red one.. Anyone see it from here?
Bobcat,
I never got the chance to introduce myself to ya, things were kinda hectic. We actually lined up once down the track and I have some other video of your truck.
I think you put down some good times with having to row through the gears! :D
I am working on a high-res DVD but I could assemble some lower res stuff for download if you like. Just let me know. tongue.gif
Bobcat,
I watched you leave the line. Don't think I wanna be around when it's clutch time as I'm sure that dual mass flywheel and the rest of the driveline is gonna be toast! Leaves seperated, pinion climbed, and rear axle shook pretty hard...
Yup, got video of it too.
Looked like a diesel powered pogo stick for about 30 feet!
I know that clutch had to be feeling the pain.
One of Moes' guys did something like that at the Pull-off in a new Ford auto. It hopped, skipped, slipped, and limped. I thought it was pretty funny as it wasn't even his truck, (guess the owner had to work). Nothing broke, but should have as the more it jumped around the more he laid into it before...zing. tongue.gif

From the pic it looks like the track is down hill???
No wonder you got the "tank" into the 12's Kennedy!!!
Sorry about the valve, I'll buy you a beer the next time I see you....
Cheers
It's an optical illusion from the steep rise on the runout lanes.
It has been shot with a laser and is a level track.
I was hoping it was a downhiller but no joy. smile.gif
Tim (midwest) actually had a transit at the track once and confirmed the flatness. The shutdown is a nice uphill that does VERY well for slowing down with minimal braking effort...

Actually, its a single mass flywheel South Bend Con FE Clutch .. Even the stock is single mass though. I just had the tranny rebuilt.
I launched so hard that my radio ripped out of my dash.. Still have the t-shirt holding it in as the mount is broken..
I ran better times with the stock clutch though.. 15.631 was my best time... Then I replaced the clutch and my times got worse..
I had Gary filming with his TV camera.. He got quite a few runs filmed.
Kinda looking at going back to Byron next weekend to spectate. They have their wheelstand show on Sunday the 10th  ...

Hey BMDMAX, who/what ran the 10.97 in your pics above?
It was a gasser Camaro trailer queen if I remember correctly. It would have been cool if it was a diesel pickup for sure.
