Lookin for a used Duramax

There is a good chance I will be buying a used Duramax. What shoud I look out for? Any major problems with the 01 or 02 Duramax? I have read a little bit and they seem to be great with little problems. Any info or direction where to look would be great. Thanks guys!!!!!

PS, one more thing, I am looking for a 4x4, I tow a 32' 5th wheel. Bout 13k loaded. Do I want 2500HD, or 3500. Why?

Been where you are, love mine. Bought it sight unseen (pictures only)via the web from a PGA golf pro on the Asian tour. Truck was in Ojai CA., he was in Thailand. He flew back, drove it down, we exchanged paperwork and $$ at the bank and I drove him to the airport.

01 has advantages and disadvantages. No smog stuff :D but the injectors are not the "improved" ones. :confused: Makes little difference AFAIC when you compare the number of injectors in service vs those that crap out.

Computer needed flashing to correct the "transmission hunting in cruise control while towing" problem and everything but the Allison was solid after a few minor computer updates. Allison had a rare problem: Weak springs caused the torque converter to drain down after sitting for a week or so. Fixed under warranty. Nobody else ever lets their truck sit that long, I suppose.

I just sold my 01 last night to my neighbor for 26k. Great truck!! To tell ya the truth I have had more problems with the dealers than the truck. Out this morning to order a new one.

I have a 2002 Silverado LT 2500 HD crewcab with Duramax/Allison. It has under 25k miles, pewter with charcoal leather. Fully loaded with two Optima yellow top batteries put in last month, PIAA air dam with 520 ion fog lights, Sylvania Xenarc HID headlights, Stainless side bars, Sprayed in bedliner with no scratches, 285's on stock rims, pioneer XM/CD/MP3/WMA/AM/FM radio with Two infinity subs in a Probox under the seat box powered by an Alpine sub amp. Comes with a Predator up to 120HP and installed X-monitor in a pillar pod. Everything is in excellent condition. I drive it very little since I have a work supplied van to drive.
