170K miles and counting w/ stock Duramax

Was visiting with a friend last weekend that drives Hot Shot. He now has 170,000 miles on his 2002 Duramax with the stock fuel filtration system. This gives me great confidence that with the added filtration we have undertaken our fuel system should perform well for a very long time. With the amt. of Duramax trucks on the road today I believe the failures we hear about are few and far in between. Just thought you guys would like a little positive news. :D :D He puts on the miles rather quickly so I should be able to update soon.

a bear does the truck use any amount of oil ? Some here were saying theirs used oil from new. I have 23,000 on mine and have never used any . Just changed at 4,000 miles and oil was still brown. Use Rotella 15-40...

Not sure. He did say he never had any problems though. My truck is knocking on 50K and so far I never had to add oil between changes. It uses 1/3 to 1/2 qt. between changes which is well within the normal range. I've been using the Mobil Delvac 1300. I have used the Rotella and Chevron with the same results.

I have right around 60,000 miles on my 2001 and the thing runs great. Maybe 1/4 of a quart of oil consumption between oil changes at the most. I run Rotella synthetic in the winter then switch to regular oil, Delo in the the summer. This way it flows good when it is real cold out. My brake pads still have about half an inch left on them, not bad for 60,000 plus on a set of brake pads. I normally use tow haul to slow off exit ramps and big hills. Running synthetics in the tranny and front and rear diffs, and power steering. This also helps in the winter.

Just goes to show that it's not the brand but the particular truck you get. Some luck is involved in everything. 43k on my 01 and never added a drop of oil. The service manager at my dealer said they have had very little injector problems. Could the quality of the fule in this area be better? I have a 04 coming early in feb. so will be selling my 01 EC LB pewter 4X4.
