View Full Version : Need Help.... B&M Transmission Pan install

I'm right in the middle of installing the B&M deep transmission pan.
Tech support is closed so maybe someone here knows the answer to my question.

--On this pan there is a filter extension tube which lowers the filter deeper into the pan--
-There also is a bracket which is used to "hold the filter in place"-

My Question:

Is the bracket supposted to hold the filter down against the bottom of the pan?
Or
support it by holding it up so it doesn't hang?

Please help, I'm right in the middle of this thing.

Thanks
Bill

I would assume it holds the filter up off the pan a little bit so it can suck oil in. I don't have any experience with the B&M so I can't say for sure. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Let me say .....The Instructions are Vague and because of a typo error do Not show which bolt to affix the Bracket to.

-I managed to decipher the correct bolt by researching the torque spec stated in the instrutions. 8 ft lbs.

As you can see here, even if the filter is held down against the bottom of the pan it can suck fluid through the recess on the filter.

**Is it enough?**

I can see no other way to support the filter with the supplied bracket, therefore I deduct it must hold it down against the bottom of the pan.

I hope I am right.....

Billy V, good luck with your pan. I'm in San Diego and a ff as well. If you ever want to talk fire, diesel, or compare notes let me know.

Thanks Steve.
I may take you up on that.
I don't know of another diesel page member around here, and most diesel mechanics I have found have little interest in a 6.5

BTW-Your intercooler set up is sweet.
I would like to know more.

I have only recently started modding my truck.
It doesn't see much use, only 45K original miles.
I'm working on keeping it cool every way possible.

The intercooler makes all the difference! Tows more like it's supposed to now. EGT's stay nice and low. If you decide to put one on, let me know if you need a hand.

If you do any serious 4x4'n I wouldn't put one where I did.
I can't believe your 93' only has 45k. Are you the origial owner?

This is a great website for 6.5 info! Just got my truck last October. In fact had to delay picking it up because of "THE FIRE". I didn't know what I had gotten myself into when I bought this truck. Learned about all the mods I've done to it here. I feel now with the changes I've made, the truck is awesome. The members on this site are extremely helpful.

Yes, I bought it new in 93 from Reedmans in Langhorne Pa. The largest car dealership I have seen. 123 acres with a test track.

*I finally got tech support for B&M. I had the install correct on the trans pan. They were completely vague in their directions.*
I feel better that I waited before filling it up and heading up 395.

What model intercooler is that?

What model intercooler is that? Found this one that fit perfectly between the frame rails on ebay. Found everything I needed there. I guess you can find some of the stuff even cheaper elsewhere online. Someone will probably chime in with that info.
