View Full Version : mackin post mortium
I guess bad news travels fast. I missed the exchange today that got mackin booted. Some of it was on the screen and I went to the kids basketball practice came back refreshed the post and it was gone. Touched base with a few friends and found out the news. For the record it sucks. The first two people I got to know here were Socaldmax and Mackin and they are both good friends. I understand some of the animosity between the two sites "page" and "place" and thought things were better.........stupid me.... :( Macks post though cryptic at times were always opinionated but informative and will be missed here. He has a wealth of experience to share and will do here no longer and thats really too bad. Maybe some others will step up but Its doubtful  ........I for one will miss him here.............a sad diesel page day..... dave

Yea, I saw some of it....it disappeared fast.
I know there is a lot of scheming that goes on off the page.....no one here can say they are not a part of it. I have saved emails to prove otherwise. When you ask about situations that are going on, you only get the one side. Some people are soo busy pointing the finger, they can't see the other four pointing back at themselves.
There are loyalists, spies, puppets (people who are told what to say and when to say it), and there are those that stand on there own 2 feet.
I'M WITH YOU DAVE......sad how these things happen. A little unfair to say the least when you see it is OK for some to voice their opinion and stay....yet others get the boot......

I have been out, so I did not see any of the posts that caused Mackin to get the boot. Short of personal threats, difference of opinions should not get one booted, especially from a pay to play newsgroup. Maybe when tings settle a bit cooler heads and calmer attitudes will prevail, and maybe Mackin will return.

Although only one person knows the actual reason for the ban ( I read about it on this thread), I can see that Mac was heading in that direction for a very long time. When people post, they have a motive, and only they truly know what their motive is. Everyone else has to kinda guess what that motive really is. The more clearly written posts are easier to decipher, the more cryptic ones are more prone to misunderstanding.
Whether anyone else agrees or not, my interpretation of the majority of his cryptic posts is that they were not posted to share useful information. They mostly stirred the pot or poked at certain people, it looked like some sort of agenda. At some point this gets tiresome, at what point is a matter of personal choice.
Those who wish to discuss technical issues without it turning into a ****ing contest should be in the majority here. There are only 2 ways to get it to stop. Ask the person nicely to stop (in which case they cry censorship at the top of their lungs) or eventually get rid of the source of the ****ing. It would be nice to just be able to stick to technical issues without people personally attacking others.
I don't make the policies, but I do agree with them. If I didn't, I'd leave on my own. Simple as that for me.

Don't know what got him thrown out, just read about it. As far as the ****ing, there are plenty of other members that should be looked at.For all of those without an agenda, ask your questions and read carefully! Stay on your on "2 feet" and try to make your own decisions. Try to decipher the info and decide what is fact or what eventually becomes a sales pitch. It'a not easy but good luck!
Hey There,
Please, let me say, I don't know why he got thrown out, nor do I really give a damn. BUT, I must say as murry the cop said, it is bloody frustrating to those who are trying to get some answers, and can not get them, because several are sparring back and forth! Mods, sorry I'm venting here, but it is time to start cracking down on anyone who has an "agenda" and starts with the sparring. So, with that said, I have a few questions. Which fuel filter is the best???? What is better post OEM or pre-OEM? [between tank and engine, pump and filter, where to put the filter??] I want to do whatever, to avoid buying a lift pump, and to avoid air, starting, stalling, and last but not least, warranty problems. Thank you, and let's keep the info, jokes, and friendly chat and advice flowing back and forth at TDP!!!!!!
James
I have to agree with both James S and Murray the Cop. Been reading and digesting info for months trying to make heads or tails out of the questions you pose, James. I'll summarize my thoughts on all the good data gleaned from the bovine feces and leave it at that since I have no vested interest in anything or anyone but my personal ride.
What's best can only be defined by the person who is buying a second filter. For me, a non mechanic geezer, highest on the list is ease of installation, given that most any additional filter, wherever it's located, decreases the likelihood of trouble ahead and I ain't fond of grubbing around under the truck. That's for you young studs.
Second in importance is getting the most "bang for the buck." The best filtration balanced against cost, again keeping in mind that there is, indeed, a point of diminishing returns.
Third, and really lowest in my personal priority list is offending GM or invalidating their precious warranty. I can remove my Juice/Attitude in less than an hour. I should be able to remove all traces of a second filter in the same amount of time. If not all traces, likely leaving something unnoticed by the "average" Goodwrench. The likelihood of getting in trouble on the road in a spot where the devices could not be easily removed before Mr. Goodwrench sticks his nose in is pretty low, in my estimation - given that my truck has already exceeded the 36,000 magic number.
Since I have a smog equipment free 2001, I not only have a greater concern for my injectors, I have more freedom to choose which filter to install.
There is no doubt the frame mount is easiest but connecting it, in the case of the N*ckt*ne, is not a "piece of cake" as several forum users here and there have already attested to. If I knew an installer locally that wouldn't charge me an arm and a leg I'd probably go for that simple solution and never worry about Goodwrench. The Mega has definite hose routing issues in later years, but it appears to be relatively easy to install IN MY TRUCK. That leaves pre or post OEM as a new choice!
It appears in all that I've read that post OEM is best. It also appears that one could remove the Mega and return the truck to stock appearance in an hour or less. Major assumption but it doesn't look too difficult.
So using simple logic, my choice is clear. Since it's my choice, it isn't open to debate. It is, however open to clarification. The only real assumption is that the Mega can be removed in less than an hour. If I had an 02, 03, or 04, the decision might be different.
Oh, if stall/no-start problems occur? I rip it out and go back to stock. I'm out the cost of 4 tanks of fuel and a case of Corona....

i for one will not miss his posts much.
yes, occassionally they were informative and/or entertaining and made me laugh.
too much of the time they were confusing at best.
but like most readers, i believe, i just read around them and ignored most of it.
now he has another playground where he can hang out and do his own thing and if i or anyone else cares to get a dose of gibberish we can go visit and enjoy.
although i am sorry to see anyone booted, including both hoot and mackin, but as this isn't my site, it's up to those that get paid to make that decision to do what they feel is best.
i have never met the guy, but i do wonder what it must feel like to wear a cheerleader outfit all the time.....

I guess I don't understand the reasons behind booting and getting booted. I myself missd the exchange, but, as mentioned above, things like porn or the threat of physical violence are the only reasons, I can think of, for getting booted. On the other hand what is so important that a member must rail against the website owners to the point you are asked to leave. I just don't get it. Oh well another enthusiast gone.

I, for one, think it smacks of censorship and has no place on an "OPEN" forum. I will not be renewing my membership. If this gets me banned, so be it.
As some of you may point out, I haven't posted in a while. I caught the last half of what happened and agree with George (big dipper) 100%. Mac's point behind all of this is principal. He didn't agree with the politics that happen behind the scenes and he brought it out in the open. The moderators didn't approve and he lost.
Steve, I agree with your statement, "If I didn't [agree with the politics], I'd leave on my own. Simple as that for me." As frustrating as political games are for some people to stomach I'm sure that's why he hasn't posted that much lately. Now that issue is a moot point.
Murray, you too hit the nail on the head. I think the lack of honestly from some people and a level playing field irked Mac.
I just wanted to add my thoughts on what happened. No hard feeling fellas.
Signing off.

The only way to get instantly booted is to threaten someone. That has happened just once in the four years this BB has been in operation.
It actually takes a lot to get forum posting permissions toggled off - usually involving multiple email exchanges trying to work it out, sometimes over months, before the final straw is loaded onto the camel's back.
I know that there is a delicate balance when trying to maintain quality in a BB forum and when dealing with a line crosser. Just about everytime I ask a line crosser for compliance with the forum rules and guidelines, I get railed on. They uniformly shift blame and accept no responsibility for their actions. I always cut courteous people a lot of slack, and I appreciate people who know this is not an easy job.
In the end, everyone should know that this forum is here to help people. Good people are essential to the success of this or any BB, and I thank each of you for being here.
