View Full Version : Defueling question
I have read where some of you using the Juice talked about the eng defueling apparently during shifting of the trans. How do you know that is what is taking place? Does it making a rattling sound like a the injectors rattling at the same time? My truck is stock and I get the noise I described occassionally when I punch the accelerator and then have to let back off the throttle about the shift point. Is this a problem that I should have looked into and what might the problem be. The truck runs fantastic (18,600 miles), actually the best since I got it.
Thanks, Tom
IF YOU HAD THE JUICE YOU WOULD DEFINTLY KNOW WHAT DEFUELING IS..........BEST DESCRIBED AS LOSS OR REDUCTION IN POWER TO ALLOW THE TRANS TO SHIFT. I NEVER NOTICED IT WITHOUT THE JUICE......BUT THERE WAS NEVER THIS MUCH POWER.......NEVER NOTICED ANY RATTLE THAT I DID NOT THINK WAS PART OF A DIESEL ANYWAY......18K AND STILL GETTING BETTER....DAVE :D
Probably your pilot injection turning off. Is the magic RPM somewhere around 2600?

It does that little rattle thing at part throttle during or just after a shift, kind of neat sounding, like its ready to go. Its nothing wrong with your truck!

My truck does this too, it is like you just burp the throttle when it shifts. I only notice it when it's cold and I'm babying the throttle.

I think what Vette Racer and Red Sled are referring to is what the transmission guys call "flare".
Mine does the same thing. I notice it more when its cold. I would describe it as a very short wrap sound from the engine right before the tranny shifts.

Raptorrider2001 I assume this "Flare" is normal then?
It has been for me since the truck was new.
Hey Motovet where is South Bend compared to North Bend?
I've never heard of it.
