I recently read a post on another forum that Mobil now offers a version of their Mobil-1 oil filter (http://www.mobil1.com) for the Duramax… the M1-303.

I was curious how the M1-303's micron (beta) efficiency specs compared to the Baldwin B1441's that I'm currently using so I called the Mobil-1 Filter Hot Line. The person at Mobil referred me to Brent Birch at Champion Labs (http://www.champlabs.com) , the OEM for the M1 filters.

Brent quoted me the following specs for the new M1-303 oil filter for the Duramax..

Nominal efficiency: 5 microns (Beta=2, 50%)
Absolute efficiency: 18 microns (Beta=75, 98.7%)

Excellent!!

(for more info on Beta specs see Filter Performance and Micron Ratings (http://www.baldwinfilters.com/engineer/95_11.html))

In terms of Beta specs I believe the M1-303 now takes the lead over the Baldwin B1441, which is specified at 8 microns nominal, and 23 microns, absolute. Brent did say that Baldwin's specs were very good for a full flow filter.

I also asked Brent if they would be publishing these specs and he wasn't sure since Mobil handles the marketing. He did say that that they do publish SAE 806 specs for the PH8 version of the filter but this test doesn't specify efficiency in terms of microns.

Well, if I didn't have nearly a full case of B1441's on the shelf and an OilGuard Bypass filter on my truck, I would be immediately switching to the M1-303.

Bill,

Thanks for the info. Good job as usual in researching the details! Its good to have a locally available oil filter (local Autozone) that compares with the Baldwin.

I don't think you have much too worry about which filter you use, as you have the Oilguard Bypass filter working for you.

Thanx JB,

Just what we've been looking for, finally!

After thinking it fell thru the cracks after hearing it might be marketed by purolator or someone else, had almost lost hope. smile.gif

Even the guys at autozone don't understand why we pay so much for these things. Oil chg in Dmax will now go from 12 to 15 if the sample holds up with the Delvac 1.

Does anyone know if there is one of these Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters for our Duramax's?

http://tinyurl.com/cch32

If so, does anyone have a part number?

Mark I just bought one of the new M1 EP filters for my truck the other day, & it uses the same M1-303 part number.
