Well I finally had it with GM.
Went on vacation out west and hit a lot of wind. One day we hit 20-30mph cross winds and the trany stayed in 4th for the 474 miles.
Checked the oil and the HD used 3 qts.The whole trip of 3241 miles I used 6qts of oil.
Called the dealer up and told the service man that this is enough! Told him what happened on the trip and was not surprised because we have been dealing with this from the 2nd oil change.
Had to bring it in for tests on 10/21.
Called back the 22nd and all the tests came back good. The all knowing tech rep from GM said that there was fuel getting in the oil and thinning it out and making it burn the oil.
To his answer was that my dealer rep gave him the oil sample results that I have been taking since I had this truck. "NO FUEL IN THE OIL"
Then this all knowing GM tech asked how big a 5th wheel trailer I was pulling because if I was pulling a big trailer of weight he said"These Engines Will Use Oil".(33',10250lbs)
Then he asked the dealer rep when does this guy check the oil?
He asked the GM rep what kind of question that was.
He finally told the GM tech that the person that owns this truck has been around diesels for most of his life and as far as I'm concerned he knows more than you and hung up the phone!!
Where does GM find these dummies and then pay them Big Bucks to talk so stupid.
First it was "We don't Want to Lug the Engine To Much" now it is "These Engines Will Use Oil Pulling Big Trailers".
Any way the service rep went to the next step and called some place about taking the engine to a engine specialist.
They found out that the Cross Hatch marks in the cylinder walls were at 60 degrees and not 120 degrees according to GM specs.
They were going to hone the cylinders out 1 or 2 thousands and put different pistons in but decided to go with a New Engine instead.
It sure is to bad that the service departments of all dealers has to put up with this much "B-S".
I asked the service rep from my dealer if he was going to call this "All Knowing GM Tech" back and let him know what they found?
He said he wouldn't waste his time on this fellow!
So anyway I hope this takes care of the oil problem.
Have a Great day

Definately get a new engine, if not a new truck. 6 qts in 3241 miles is too much for any engine. Much less a new one.

How does the truck run? Smoke any?

DieselDennis,
The truck runs fine. With all the oil it uses you would think it would smoke a lot but it doesn't as much as I can see when driving.
Maybe I think it is running good, will wait until I get the new engine.
Have A Good Day
