When my 2002 duramax gets hot the check engine oil level light comes on ,I check the oil and the level is fine, and stays on till the truck cools down over night. Has anyone had this problem ? I have 82000 miles on the engine. I was thinking maybe a sensor was going bad. Just wondering before I took it to the dealer to be checked out.

I would suspect the related wiring and electrical connector before the sensor itself. GM relocated the oil level sensor in the newest engines to the rear of the pan. This may indicate that they've seen issues before - though I've not heard of any.

Mine has been doing it since it was new (2001). I did take it in twice and once with the light actually still on and they could not locate the problem -- we will get back to you after we talk to the teck's -- yea right. Mine comes on usually after it has been run hard and goes out whenever it pleases so I do think it is a heat related issue.

Check the physical condition of the sensor wiring and connector. Are there any damaged wires? Is the connector full seated?

If you're able to continuity test the wires, let me know, and I'll give you the pinouts and other info for the tests.

Otherwise, it could be a sensor problem.
