Oh, isn't that just great! I'm running around town with my 380hp thinkin' "I'm bad, I'm nationwide" then you tell me there's a 600hp Dmax out there?
When should we be on the lookout for it? How exactly does one make that much power, besides just slapping a monster turbo on it? How was the tranny modified to handle the power? I can't wait to see the article! And the truck! http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You have GOT to be kidding me... 600HP. Cummon guys, don't do this to me. I can't afford this habit.. I'm already chomping to get a D-Max to replace my 6.5L, but even a stock one is going to bust the budget.. Now you talk of 600 HP when I'm still trying to eeek out a few more HP from my 6.5L... We need a Diesels Annonymous forum here to treat our addictions.. before it ruins us all.

My name is Hunter, and I am also a Dieselhollic! Getting up in the morning and fireing her up can be more exciting than ____! Driving several hours to go to another state to buy cheap fuel, when the tank is 7/8 full to start with. I am a diesel hollic. Driving to the mailbox or any other excuse to start her up. I am a diesel hollic. Wishing I could afford another one I am a diesel hollic.

I just got back from running some errands in the company D-Max 2500HD. (Still looking like http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).
I drove my VW Jetta Diesel to work (Where I work on the D-Max Project) and will drive it home and park it next to my 3500 Chevy Dually 6.5TD.
I still don't know why people think I am a DIESELHOLLIC!

Hi, my name is Jim and I am a dieselholic. I love the smell of diesel fumes, there,s nothing better than the smell of a REAL truck engine. In my barnyard there are five cats (3126, 3176, 3406) three macks (EM6, EM7) two detroits (60 Series) four cummins (L10, 5.9) one navistar (DT466) and the best one of them all, a duramax 6.6. Oh yea just for kicks I like to fire up the silver 92 in my loader at 3am to load the salt trucks. After listening to one of those for 20 minutes the silence is deafening, come to thing of it that has a lopey idle too.

Hi I am Jeff....I too, am a DIESEL-ALHOLIC.
To be honest with you..I really like driving my truck more than my Race car. I have more fun rolling into the Motorplex's and cruising through the pits towing my trailer.
I am concerned I am going to wash the paint off it, I already have numerous coats of wax on it. I lay on the ground and just look up underneath and say WOW. I hate all the synthetic oils as it stops me from having something to do on it. I look at this page everyday and want to add stuff to it. I asked my wife if she would stitch a Duramax Logo into my pillow...LMAO....
I fall a sleep reading the manual...and the best yet, is when I see another owner coming towards me and we WAVE at each other...I met another GM psycho.....
I have been looking for this support group..DAA.(Diesel Alholic Anonmyous)

I don't know if this is exactly right but last May I went to that GM drive it deal where they had lots of GM cars and trucks along with competitors vehicles you can drive. There was also a guy giving a talk about the Dmax and torque and HP and gear ratio.... After his talk I went to have my own chat with him about the Dmax, we got to talking and he mentioned the Pike's Peak truck and 600 HP. I asked how they got it and he said they ported and done some other things to the heads, boosted the turbo and done some fuel management things. I don't know about the tranny. This guy owned a Dmax and was part of some racing team. I guess we will see soon, right Jim?

fun fun fun! banks is kinda doing something similar with their 5.9 commonrail cummins 6spd in a dakota. they claim 600hp/1000lb-ft
http://www.bankspower.com/banks_sidewinder.html
Hey guys.
I was at this years DP Rendezvous. Part of it was at the DMAX LTD engine plant. This is where I, SAW, LISTENED TO RUN, SAW MOVED (slowly!), SAT IN, AND VIRTUALLY CRAWLED ALL AROUND this race truck! Quite a cool little truck! It is all operated by hand control, as the driver that drove it, has lost the use of his legs. Only problem was, the parking brake was modified and relocated to the pillar (rollbar) where most of you guys mount your gauges. He used this to start a "slide" around corners. Well anyway, there must have been a glitch with the relocation process, and somehow, the trucks parking brakes were locked up solid! Hence when Dr. Lee got in it to move it, it would barely move unless it was really romped on. BELIEVE me, it sounded REAL healthy!
Now, put that in a 1/2 ton short wheelbase pickup on the street.....WATCH OUT!!

If somebody is really "getting" this truck and engine, I hope whoever gets it either can themselves, or allows somebody else to, try to download the computer programs for the engine and transmission.
IF we can carry our engines' shift point from 3100 to 3800, even if we make the SAME torque, we increase HORSEPOWER by 22% because hp = torque x rpm.
Our shift points are way too low for max power; my dumb old Suburban 6.5 Banks turbodiesel pulled hardest from 2500-3600 and shifted at 3800 so no way this 4 valve head techno monster can't beat THAT old thing!
I am really disappointed that the aftermarket hasn't even attempted to increase shiftpoint rpm's at maximum throttle yet. That is WAY overdue!
If they only change the max throttle shiftpoints, then lower throttle drivability etc don't suffer and don't require a total new program, just the max throttle datapoints.
Will there be a support grouo for wives. Mine is a Dmax aholic and needs help with her being friendly with Ford and Dodge diesel owners.
I try and explain that it is ok to wave but she MUST wave all FIVE fingers.

More Power,
One question: What is the plan for traction and drive train?
Breck,
What kind of torque on that Dodge?
Not sure Hoot, but I would probably guess around 1200'ish+ ft/lbs. Most make around 2.2-2.6 ft/lbs per HP.
Never met him, but he does a lot of writting for the TDR and had a nice article about his truck in the last issue.
I believe he is a chem. engineer: With no "ties" to the big three.
There are others out there with 6BTA's that make more power (800+HP), but I don't believe they are daily drivers like his.
More Power
03-31-2002, 16:37
MNBowTie,
Two schools of thought currently exist on the drivetrain. One says to remove all of the 4by stuff to make the truck lighter (<~4000-lbs), and then run a Ford 9" 3.70 rear with appropriately wide 31" tires.
The second group says that a 4x4 would do better... That's why the tx-fer case was included with the Allison... Just in case....
The Dodges make great power, but I wonder about the narrow rpm range (3800 vs 4800-5000 of the Duramax). This can make a big difference in gearing requirements and rear-wheel power in the higher gears, that are necessary to reach target speed.

Kickin,
I've spoken to a number of people involved in drag racing, on some level. I get two responses when asking about rear differentials... Either the Ford 9" or a Corporate GM 14-bolt. The 14-bolt is stronger, but is also a lot heavier. Still undecided.....
Regarding HP & TQ... Banks' web site lists their Cummins project at 600 hp and 1000 lb-ft. This being a long-stroke six, I would expect the TQ to be higher than a V-8, at the same HP level. But, it's not 1200......
MP
What class is Banks going to run out in Bonneville and if so, is it strictly a diesel class. Or is the class just a pick-up class, just curious, might have some fun in the off season.
More Power
04-03-2002, 21:01
I haven't kept up on the Bonneville classes, but Banks' Cummins (and all diesel pickups) will run in the "compression ignition" engine classes. I've heard that a couple new classes have been added because of the rise in diesel pickup popularity.

Have there been any updates on installing the new engine? Have you made a decision yet on whether or not to keep or take out the 4 wheel drive? I think that it is interesting that there is a Duramax project truck and a couple of Cummins projects going on, but I haven't heard of any sort of Powerstroke drag racer. Thanks
