Please explain the differance between the Durmax
engine models in regards to the injectors.

IE: price, location, ease to replace, longivity, etc

Note :I am aware of the 01 injector problems.

Looking for a used truck, I do my own maintenance,
I expect a minimum of 200k miles, therefore
injector maintenance is critical.
( Ready to give up on my 6.5L )

Thank you all in advance.

www.usdieselparts.com (http://www.usdieselparts.com) has Duramax injectors listed in its online/print catalog.

The LB7 injectors are hands down more tedious to replace, but not really that big a deal for those who have done it once. Got to remove some stuff to remove the fuel-rail lines, the remove the top of each valve cover.

The LLY injectors are fairly well exposed, and you don't have to remove the valve covers. No injector cups to deal with either.

The number of reported LB7 injector failures have fallen off considerably. This could mean that if the LB7 truck you're looking at has had a somewhat recent replacment, it should be fine for a good long while.

LB7's are easier to make power with. The LB7 turbo is stone reliable - with its mechanical wastegate actuator. The LLY turbo is computer controlled.... The LLY's are EGR equipped.... Many LB7's aren't.

I could make an argument for either choice.... smile.gif
