20" Wheels Anyone?

Hey Guyz!

Kinda new to the forum, going to get my first 6.6 duramax and want to know if anyone has opinions on 20" wheels? I see people taling about hummer wheels and stuff like that, I could really use the advice!

Larger wheels equals less air volume equals lower rated capacity (within same ratings), as well as increased ride harshness.

If you want a "looker", why bother with the HD or 3500? If you have money to burn, more power to ya. Form follows function in the real world.

Not all of the 20s are low profile performance tires with low load ratings.

I have seen a 2500HD crew cab with 20's. It was running Nitto 305/55 20s. The tires were the same height as my 285s. There is another around here running Nitto 325/60 18s. Both look great, but I think I prefer the extra side wall on the 18s. As far as Weight rating, all the Nitto LT tire are rated in excess of 3000lbs. (about what your stock 245s should be) I think they have a couple over 3600. Toyo builds the Tires for Nitto and also market some of the same sizes in their Open Country line

Just because it has a bit larger wheels does not make it a pimp-mobile. I put 18 inch wheels on mine that have a better load rating than the stock 16-inchers. Overall my diameter went up about an inch but I gained about 3 inches of width.

The truck handles much better, does NOT ride rough, and tows everything I need with ease. It also has much more tire on the pavement for better grip in any condition over the stock setup. The plus one or two wheel and tire sizing concept does work, don't knock it if you have not tried it.

The best part is all the compliments I get on the wheels, it is the first thing that gets noticed by the fellow diesel-heads at any event I go to.

BMDMAX, those are some very good looking wheels! What brand/model are they?

They are made by Weld. They are the Evo Velociti 8 series in 18 by 8.5. They are fully chromed forged aluminum and actually much easier to clean than the stockers.

They are pricey, but I got a pretty good deal at tirerack.com with the tires mounted and balanced. They shipped them right to my door and I bolted them right on. :D

I have 20" rims on mine and I love it. The overall diameter is about 1/2" bigger than stock 265'. The 305/50/20 Goodyears are rated @ 3000lb.

I am running Michelin Pilot LTX. 285/60-18. I gained a bit in load rating and I got a HR speed rating with improved traction / handling.

The tires ride really nice and have tons more grip than the OEM Bridgestones. I feel a bit better on these tires when I hit 104 in the 1/4 mile too! :D
