question for Turbo Al and any other Canadian Duramax owners

Hey Al and all Other Canadian Duramax owners,

What is your milage like, given the difference between canadian and american gallons? To convert your milage to miles per CANADIAN gallon, take your milage and multiply it by 1.2. This makes up for the twenty percent difference between the 3.78 litre, American gallon and the 4.55 litre Canadian gallon.
EG. if you got 17 miles per gallon in town, multiply that by 1.2 and you would actually be getting 20.4 miles per Canadian gallon in town. I give you this example, as there was some questions about calculating this, posted a few weeks back.

My mileage is great - as far as I am concerned!! I work for an oil company and do about 200 kliks per day (120 miles) of 50/50 city and highway driving. I AVERAGE 20 mpg with this type of driving - highway speeds of 110 kliks (66 mph) If I stick to straight highway driving at the speed limit it'll do 24-25 mpg - and that's CANADIAN gallons!! :D

Only time I really checked mileage was towing the 5th wheel to Florida in Feb and back in March.Got an average of 11.8 to U.S. gallon,thought this was pretty good compared to my 6.5 which got around 8MPG on the same trip with same 5er.
Trailer weighs 11,000 and I usually travel the speed limit or slightly above the limit.Without the trailer I would guess I get about 20-22 to the Can gallon will check on the next fill-up.
Sure wish I could make it to B.C. for the rendezvous but its not in the cards after the trip south,read Visa card, Master card, and American Express card lol.

I mean the Diesel Page Rendezvous of course!! Its May 10-12 ITS IN CANADA this year [near Abbotsford]....We will have DP vendors, a catered BBQ and tour BD and see DAS, seminars on the Dmax/Allison/6.5TD stuff like that....lots of give aways and good old fashioned Diesel guy bonding stuff...You have to be a DP member and you have to register soon. Don't wait!!!

James I haven't been keeping track for the last 6 months -- truck has been mostly sitting in driveway. I did just get the new updates put in and start on a daily 40 mile round trip so will be checking MPG over the next month or so. Last tank MPG was 700 km for 105 liters.

That would put you at 15.7 mpg (U.S.) and 18.8 mpg (Cdn).
I have ranged from a low of 14.5 to a high of 17 mpg (U.S.). I hope the mileage will improve when we start using summer diesel.

Hey Sharon,

Are you using number-two diesel. If you are using that and staying in the RPM's below two-thousand, your milage should improve dramatically. Good luck. Let us know of any changes in milage.

Is number two diesel summer diesel? Will have to see how it does keeping it below 2000 rpms, like you suggested. I asked at our service station and they are still on winter diesel, due to our weather being so unpredictable right now. We could get snow still :(

Was on a long haul highway driving last weekend averaging around 70 mph, got 17 mpg then.

I average around 12-16 US mpg doing 75-80mph. My last trip to Alberta (monday) I kept it between 60-65 and got 20 US mpg.

I checked out your web site and I am impressed. I saw you compete in Saskatoon last may and was very impressed. I have a 13 month old yellow lab, Cruiser, from Whiskey Creek Kennels (Jane and Grant De Pauw up by Edmonton) My hunting partner has two dogs out of clubmead. We are just starting our summer regiment to get ready for the fall hunt. I am following Mike Lardy's training schedule and find it very complete. The joys and sorrows of training my own dog have been overwhelming and I can't wait to bring another dog into the home. I will keep you in mind when the time is right.

Lardy's is a great program and the one we have followed for the most part. Good luck with your dog. Sometimes, it's easy to send them to a pro, but we take great satisfaction in having trained our own, warts and all.

Good day guys. Been awhile since I've been on. Since people were posting some mileage numbers here, thought I would add my couple of cents worth...

During the winter, I was getting 18-19 US mpg (21.5 - 23 CDN mpg) doing approx 115 km/hr highway, or 16-17 US mpg (19-20.5 CDN mpg) 50/50 highway/city.

This last week, decided to slow it down a bit and drive 100 km/hr highway on a trip. Got 22.5 US mpg (27 CDN mpg!) average on two tanks. May be they switched to summer diesel at the same time? I dunno, but I do know that I love this truck!

Is your regular cab longbox, a four by four, or four by two? I ask, because this would explain the twenty-seven miles per canadian gallon on the highway, if it was a four by two. If it is a four by four, damn, I'm impressed!!

PS For anyone else who has posted milages, make sure to say EXACTLY what your truck is. 2500, verses 3500, crew cab, verses, regular cab, BUT ESPECIALLY, four by two, verses four by four.

Yeah, the numbers were for the 4x4 and a long box. Note that I also have a tonneau cover and was running the truck pretty empty (about 400 lbs in the bed).

Another interesting point would be that my speedometer is out because the of the 265 michelins that I have on, and not corrected for. I think the multiplier to correct for this is approximately 1.07, which brings all the mileage numbers up even higher. I've gotta say, I can't complain. smile.gif

Been averaging 20.5 cdn mpg with mixed city and highway driving with box empty. 2500 cc 4x4. More than happy with that because I traded a 2000ex. cab 4x4 with 6.0l and best I could get with it was 15 cdn mpg. Just had my fifth wheel hitch installed today will post towing numbers for 30 ft. fiver @8600 lbs soon.

~20000km on the truck now, few mod's but none are for performance, have mileage records for over 17000km of that. So far:

worst: 16.8mpg (Cdn) / 14 (U.S.) / 16.8l/100km
best: 24.66mpg (Cdn) / 20.54 (U.S.) / 11.5l/100km
avg: 19.04mpg (Cdn) / 15.85 (U.S.) / 14.8l/100km

#'s have been corrected for change in tire size and verified with my GPS.

Truck spends most of its time commuting me to/from work, takes me ~30-45 minutes to go 25km. Worst mileage was a cold week where it received long warm-ups before moving. Best is cruising on the highway at ~65mph. It hasn't really done any hard work yet (but will this summer).
