Okay, I'm a "newbie" here wanting advice. I have a 93 GMC 3500 crewcab 6.5TD 2swd. I am picking up a 2003 GMC 2500HD SLT 4x4 crewcab Duramax/Allison combo, (YES, more power!). The 2003 was a GMC company vehicle (demo?) and has 5K miles. Now when I bought my '93 6.5 used in 1996, nobody explained about fuel filters. I got 80K miles on the first filter. I don't like getting laughed at by mechanics and have learned alot. What should my priorities be concerning purchasing aftermarket fuel/oil/air filters and general "stuff" to protect this new Duramax Tks wendell

Install the Mega filter from John Kennedy as soon as you get it. Change the oem filter at least every 10, 000 miles. I just got my 02 back from the dealer today. Lost all eight injectors at GMs expense of course. However I have 75,000 miles on it now. Next time it will be my expense. Tried to get extended warranty, will only go 30,000 miles at $2,100.00.

Welcome and congratulations on your new ride! I also had a K3500 6.5TD CC Dually (98) before I bought my 03 Dmax. There are volumes of info here that will answer your questions. Try using the forum search feature (upper right on the page). You will find a variety of views and info on filters of all types.

FWIW, Here is what I use on my 03...

Oil Filter:
Baldwin B1441 (has the best specs that I have found).. I get mine from Westfleet (http://www.westfleet.com)

Air Filter:
I’m using the OEM AC Delco but am considering a switch to the UNI (http://www.unifilter.com)

Oil Bypass Filter:
OilGuard (http://www.oilguard.com) ... also see OilGuard Install (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=005320#000000)

OEM Fuel Filter:
All brands are made by RACOR no matter what the label says. Change at 10kmiles or sooner…

Supplemental Fuel Filter(s):
Many Dmax owners here on the forum have added a supplemental 2-micron fuel filter to extend injector life. Lots of options here… See 56Nomad’s MEGA - CAT - Racor - Stanadyne (Comparisons) (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=006502;p=1) thread for more info…. I added a JK Mega Filter (http://community.webshots.com/album/67970835fahHeh) with a lift pump and pre filter. (http://community.webshots.com/album/67970835fahHeh)

Coolant Filter:
Baldwin B5134. (http://community.webshots.com/album/91409363hjwmod) See a bear’s Coolant Filters (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=006730#000003) thread for more info.
