I ordered mine yesterday and need to know a couple of things. How much does this increase the oil capacity with the extra filter and the hose? Also, is there instructions on the best place to install this? If anyone has one on, do you have pictures?
Goin' all AMSOIL!!!
Thanks.

It will increase the oil capacity by about 2 quart. Most mount them on the inside of the frame on the drivers side.

The only vibration noise I have heard of is when you mount it to that piece of thin sheet metal under the floor pan.

so where are they mounting it.. because i thought thats where to mount it.. good thing i didnt. wheres the best place?
I cut the hose that Amsoil sent half into. Made 2 pieces 4' long. Also made a brackett out of angle iron and mouned to the top of the frame rail on the drivers side, behind the crossmenmber, filter brackett mounts to this. Filters are up out of the way and are protected by the cross member. Makes no noise at least none louder than my 4" exhaust :D :D :D
RichC,
Is there any way you could post some pictures of your installation?
Many Thanks,
MaxRock
maxrock,
I will try to get some pictures this weekend. could be first of the week.
Maxrock,
You shold be able to see the pictures now, if I did it right. The angle bracket is in the bottom photo.

I insalled my BMK-17 today. I mounted it in the same location as Rich, but instead of using a piece of angle iron I used a 4"x10"x1/8" piece of aluminum. I bolted it to the top and bottom of the frame. I then boted the dual remote filter to the top of the aluminum. It went easy about 2 hours, and now I figure I will change out my tranny pan for the deep pan, while I got the truck up on the wheel ramps. This was a mistake come to find out without a test drive
All went well with the pan swap after reading up on everyone's experiences, so now it is time to test drive it. About 2 miles down the road I started hearing a load whine. This dosn't sound good. I get home I am thinking I got the same problem as Bowtie Duramax. I stick my head up in there it sure sounds like the tranny. O man!!! I then put my hand on the filter hoses where I tied them to a hole I driiled in the heat shield. The sound stops Thank God. I should of figured those hoses would vibrate. Alls good now.

Can the PF2232, B1441, or SDF-52 filter be used in the Full Flow position of the BMK-17? Or do HAVE to use the SDF-26 for the Full Flow. Also is anybody using Baldwin's for the Bypass?

The BMK-17 will except a full flow filter that is like a Fram PH8. As for by-pass elements I think their is one person that had adapters so you could use a Baldwin but not sure if he still offers them. As far as using a Baldwin by-pass what is the advantage? If you have to change it more often it will be more expensive. Is the Baldwin rated at 99% for 3 micron? If not I don't see the advantage.

I installed mine on the frame. (I had to fab a bracket so it would clear the torsion bar.) And I have never heard any noise come from it.
Greg,
No question that the AMSOIL BE100 is an excellent by-pass filter. When you say it’s rated 3 micron’s at 99 % is that the Beta=75 absolute 98.7% efficiency rating as measured with the multiple pass Beta Ratio Test per SAE J1858?
One reason to use a cheaper By-Pass filter is if you run mineral oil and change it frequently or you use synthetic and don’t buy into extended drain intervals. I will most likely put the BMK-17 on my new DMAX but I am not sold on extended drain intervals. I have read the pros and cons (as well as Dr. Lee’s views on extended drains) and will continue to change my oil at “regular” intervals. I’m just exploring the options.
On my 98 6.5 I used AMSOIL 15-40 Synthetic, AC Ultrguard Gold UPF1218 Full Flow Filters and Baldwin B50 Bypass Filters (with a COMO adapter from JK). I changed the oil (and both filters) very 2500- 3000 miles. The UPF1218 is 98 % efficient at 8-10 microns (single pass test), the B50 is 2 microns nominal (50%) and 12 microns (absolute). The B50’s cost $3 or less and the UPF1218’s are $8. My Oil analysis results were always very good.
I contacted Baldwin Tech support and asked for the specs on the B1441 (equivalent to PF2232) and whether they recommend using the B50 on the Duramax. Their answer was as follows:
“The B1441 is 8 micron nominal (Beta =2) and 23 micron absolute (Beta = 75). “The burst pressure of the B50 is not as high as the B1441, therefore I do not recommend the use of the B50 on this application due to the increased operating pressure. “
I replied to ask if they had an alternative to the B50 for the Duramax but I haven’t heard back yet.
I also contacted AC DELCO for the specs on the PF2232. At first they refused to give out the information, but after being persistent they responded that the “micron rating of a PF filter is 25-40”. I assume that is 25 nominal and 40 Absolute. I plan to contact AMSOIL and others to get the nominal/absolute ratings of the other Duramax filters and will share the results on the forum.
The BMK-17 with SDF-26 and BE-100 is an excellent product (I’m an AMSOIL dealer too), but I would prefer to not be locked into one source for filters. Besides, it’s rumored that Baldwin makes AMSOIL filters.

Know rumor about it, Baldwin/Hastings do make the Amsoil full flow filters to Amsoil spec. The by-pass elements they make in house. I am not sure of the Beta rating on either filter. The SDF-52 is suppose to 94% efficient at 10 micron, but that is just hear say. To gethose kind of specs out of Amsoil is tuff. I knew the AS Delco was nothing special, the Baldwin and Amsoil are made for the Duramax and not a multitude of other applications. As for the extended drains that is all a matter of opinion and everyone, even the great DR Lee has his. Exstended drains work, but you need to have a good oil analysis program to go with it. I have never told anyone to put the oil in and forget about, that is asking for trouble. If you get the numbers out of Amsoil please let me know, I have asked numerous times and have always gotten the run around.

I installed my BMK-17 on the driver's side behind the torsion bar cross member. I studied RichC's install and made a T shaped bracket from 1x1 and 3x2 3/8 angle iron. The advantage of the T shaped bracket is that I was able to leave the brake line in place (put some vacumm tubing around it to prevent wear). I have noticed a slight vibration in the floor at idle and assume it is from the hoses.
I will eventually move it forward either making a bracket to go over the torsion bar or buying the bracket that Greg sells at www.lubespecialist.com. The forward position will reduce the hose from from 4 feet to about 1.5 and should not require tying them to the frame.
