What are the symptoms of a failing HB? Has anyone on TDP ever had one fail to the point of a broken crank? On a '93 6.5 how the heck do you change it? It seems like there is no access from the bottom and you'd have to stand on your head all day to get at it from the top.

Unfortunately[YES], most/all crank failures are associated with shot HB, the damped crank pulley in front of(and mounted to it), or a screwey flywheel/flex plate on other end of crank. At 275K you should check/refit both crank pulley and HB...There were/are(?) some good associated posts; try search feature....

Tell me more about the flywheel problems. I keep having problems w/ clutch chatter due to hot spots on the flywheel.

I'd try a new post for that.{Mine is auto, so i'm unclear}. First, though, try the "search" function; there have been a few discussions of clutch probs....clutch updates...There may be some old articles , see summaries of articles in reference section...
