I just picked up a new 2004 LLY/Alli GMC crew cab swb 4wd.

I got it from a GMC dealer in a small town in Arkansas northeast (Glen Sain GMC Truck). Very nice people to deal with. Drove it about 150 miles back to Tennessee.

My trip computer said that I averaged 20.2 MPG! I was suprised it was that high. I took it easy driving but was still suprised it was that high.

I still haven't filled it up yet to double check the mileage but is the fuel meter typically accurate (at least while stock)? I hope so...

Anyways, I've been reading this board forever and finally got one.... :D

I love my 2004 LLY D/A also, but I would suggest you hand calculate your mileage. The best I've done so far is about 16.

I've had mine since April, got just over 9000 miles on it so far. Calculating MPG vs. the on-board computer - the computer is close but consistently about 0.1 to 0.2 MPG less than I get if I do it by hand.

Getting typically 17-18 MPG in my pretty even mix of city and highway driving.

Enjoy your new truck!

dodgerfan your comments on the bouncy ride we get on ca. interstate hwy. struck home.I have a 04D/A 4x cc lb.Should I do the Bilsteins or go to another solution? I tow a 11000lb.boat but really concerned most with the ride solo. kevin

Get the Bilsteins. Huge improvement on the CA concrete freeways.

CONGRATULATIONS!
This is one hell of a truck. and you are going to love it.
I have 30000 on mine now and average 18.8 on a daly basis, however towing it's normally around 10-12. I took it on a 6000 mile trip last winter pulling my 9000lb. camper and averaged 10.5mpg and that was with the on board computer as wll as figuring it by hand.
I put michlen tires on straight out of the lot and the ride is much better.
Have fun, enjoy and try to keep your foot off of the floorboard! lol

Thanks guys. I have about 900 miles on it so far and it has been great. With my first fill-up I checked my mileage and the computer said I was averagin 19.2 mpg. I calculated it by hand and came up with 19.5 so I guess the computer is pretty close.

It is hard keeping my foot out of the floor!
