weird smell

Just towed with my new 2500 Duramax/Allison for the first time, when we stopped and got out we could smell something from the truck, kind of fluid burning smell . We have about 1000 miles on it, you think this was just the towing breaking in process? it did tow great!!!

You just warmed up the rear diff. It will probably not get that hot again. I would suggest that you now change out the rear diff fluid with a good synthetic. Mobil or Amsoil.
Your choice. Don't worry about it but change the fluid. Chances are it is pretty smelly right now. Mine did the same thing.

Exhaust will also smell when new and hot, particularly the cat. I've also had power steering fluid spew from the cap and hit the manifold while running hard on the dyno
