It occurs to me that diesel fuel in some parts of the country might be of a higher quality than in other parts. I was thinking that this might show up in higher levels of injector failures in some parts of the country and perhaps no or a low number of failures in others. If you have had injector failures, please respond with your location and numer of injectors you have had to replace. If you have never had any injectors fail, please respond saying so. That would be good data too. I will try to compile the data and post the results. Thanks, rod (K1ROD)

k1rod, I see what you are asking here, but I doubt you will have a meaningful amount of data to consider. My suspicion all along is if GM wants to look at the problem statisticly, they should log every vin number that had to have replacement injectors and see how it sorts out, I suspect they will find the majoriety of failures occured within a certain time period. If put into a graph the graph would start out low then peak suddenly and then just as suddenly go right back down, sugesting it is a manufacturing defect and not necessarly bad fuel. Now if they knew the low sulfur diesel was going to be a problem due to lubricity lacking, they should have immediately told everyone to use an additive to add lubricity until the oil companies can make further adjustments to their specs. Someone dropped the ball somewhere. Good luck with your survey, hope I never have to add my name to the list of injector failures. I'm using my own common sense approach to try and avoid the failures. Will let you know it it doesn't.

Add me to the list. Had a date with the service dept. this morning. 86K miles and #7 is leaking like a screan door on a submarine. No fuel in the oil, but it won't stop pouring fuel into the cylinder. Lots of smoke and knocking. Always had good fuel and post OEM Mega filter for about 15K. The problem came on real fast, so something broke. I'm getting 8 new ones....as soon as they come in

Question for Royalglen --- I have an '03 with about same mileage as you. What symptoms did you start having which suggested you needed to replace the injectors? Thanks

I'm located in Northern Illinois, and my '01 K-2500 has 97,500 miles on it (about 2/3 of which has been heavy towing.

The truck began to smoke at idle and on load about 500 miles ago. There was no loss of power and no detectable rise in oil level or drop in oil pressure before I got it to the dealer.

On diagnosis, two injectors were clearly bad (one on each bank) and the other six were marginal and presumably about to go south. All eight injectors are being replaced this week under the extended warranty program, so I won't even have to pay the deductible. Working with a great dealer and service department at Bob Jass Chevrolet, Elburn, IL.

For what it's worth.

'01, taken to dealer at 99,985, scheduled for all 8 to be replaced when they arrive. Woodstock,IL. Not a catastrophic failure. Intermittent smoke belching from tailpipe(twice in approx. 500 mi.), very lumpy idle and progressively decreasing mileage since replacement of FPR at approximately 70K(pre-FPR 20+ on highway, 16.5-17 in town w/freestanding 2" square AL tubing ladder rack and cap, post FPR 18 or less hwy,now 15 or less city or hwy w/cap and no rack). No fuel in oil, still driveable according to dealer.....
