View Full Version : beatin' up on a '98 Mustang at the track w/video
I went to the track last weekend to make some 2wd runs with G80 and the 285 BFG's on the stock rims. I ran several 14.7X's @ 91.XX mph with the Hot Juice on level 4.
One round I was in line next to an 02 or 03 Mustang GT and a 98 Mustang with a SVT badge on the rear. I was hoping to run against the GT that was running high 15's. But I ended up having to run again the SVT mustang which I hadn't seen run yet.
When I pulled up next to the guy he laughed but I knew I'd give him a run for his money. So I put it in 4wd and spooled up 10# of boost and cut a 0.637 RT to his 0.545 but it was all Duramax power from 60' (2.06 to his 2.73) beating the Mustang thru the traps.
I ran a 14.46 @ 90.88mph to his 14.93 @ 97.04mph. He didn't stick around long enough for me to ask him if his Mustang was really a SVT or if he just stuck the badge on the back.
The announcer really played up the big crewcab Chevy Diesel beating up on the Mustang which added to the fun while I was getting the last laugh.
I ran one other time in 4wd running 14.370 @ 90.30mph with a 1.98 60'. This was a little slower (mph, 60' & ET) than my previous best run last year but that was on a different track and I was still running the stock 245 steeltex AT's.

Great show Mike. I bet that guy won't laugh at another Dmax. Later! Lone Eagle :D
Awesome. Have you had any mechanical/relibility problems with all your hard launches and Hot juice?
Blaine
Blaine,
Your drag racing days coming back? Do you have gauges in your truck?
I've made about 15 4wd launches with the reg & hot juice at the track but I'm only launching with 10# of boost. Any more boost off the line and I get tire spin. I do alot of things that I'm probably not suppose to with my truck. My transfer case and front axle was broke in a 1/4 mile at a time, I tow 20000#+ combined at highway speeds in 4wd if the roads are crappy, and I've started truck pulling this summer.
I had a front output shaft seal leak early on (fixed under waranty) but that was before the hotjuice, before I ever went to the dragstrip and before the 4wd towing last winter.
Sounds very durable ..... Bring it to the dark side .....
MAC ;)
Tomac,
E-mail and tell me what track that was at.
Thanks,

I had a pleasant experiance the other day myself. I was sitting in the left lane at a stop light when a little ricer pulled up behind me and in the right lane. He had his windows down and some crappy music blaring. I couldn't hear anything but his crap so I rolled my windows up. I guess he saw me do this so he cranked his stereo up even louder. There was a car beside me and infront of him which put his lowered honda just about even with my exhaust. ;) So as the light got ready to turn green I switched the juice to level 4, applied a little brake and a lot of go pedal and completely filled his car with diesel fumes. Man you gotta love it. I drove away with him fanning the air and coughing.

Thanks for the laugh. I would have loved to have seen the whole thing.... especially the reaction as the smoke enveloped their car :D :D
TexasMax,
LOL great story, guess I will have to get me Juice Box just to do this LOL :D
Micheal Tomac,
Link not working, unable to find page?????
Micheal Tomac:
Hey Micheal, your link doesn't seem to work. My guess would be that most Web servers don't like DOTS like "." in the filename exept for the extension. You may want to replace them with underscores "_" but leave the ".mpg" at the end...
Can't wait to see that video.
Thanks
JF.
try this, I eliminated the .'s

That worked great, can you say "Hole Shot". The mustang was over there smoking his tires while you pulled him a couple of car lengths. Good video.
Man you come out of the hole like a bat outa hell! Yeee Haaa!
Michael, thanks for fixing that link- I would hate to have not been able to see that. You are my hero.
Dan, I thought I was funny when I turbo-ed beside the guy who had just cut me off while he was yakking on his cell-phone, but you got that beat.
You guys should go buy yourselves a beer and pretend it's on me smile.gif

Micheal, I couldnt get to the track last weekend, sounds like I missed a good show. A guy I work with was there with his camaro. Its white and purple, full tube car, running 9's. He said he seen you and was impressed.... Gotta get out there and see this...!! I like the smoke out idea.... ;)
Hound,
Drag racing NEVER leaves you once it's in your blood..................
I installed Isspro (sp?) boost and EGT gauges when I isntalled my Juice.
Blaine
watched the video, love it :D :D
Michael, way cool on that video. You rock man! I had to set Winamp to repeat so I could watch it at least 8 times, haha!
BTW, a couple years ago, or so, there was some wind tunnel testing and Salt Flats testing of the effects of lowering the tailgate on pickup trucks. On the two particular trucks they tested (I can't recall what they were exactly, but one was a 200+ mph truck), they concluded that lowering the tailgate created more wind resistance than just leaving it up. The theory pretty much said that the air coming over and under the truck has a smoother transition away from the vehicle with the tailgate up, which created an invisible wall of air in the bed, if you will, which helped to keep the air from coming back and pushing against the cab area as much.
Naturally, though, a cover would produce the best results smile.gif
I just leave the 50# tailgate at home

SWEEEEEEET video brutha!!!
As for smoking out people. i hit the tow/haul ass button quite a bit myself. If I see one of those idiots, I hit it. a "**** on GMC", I give it to em. "**** on Chevy", I let it ride... lol
I the original juice (what is it... 1.0??) And can smoke em with the best of em.
> I just leave the 50# tailgate at home
heh, darn things are pretty heavy ain't they? We used to pull them off our trucks too at the track. Anything to make it lighter, especially when they are such pigs to begin with. Loved it on the video them talking about how much you weighed! hehehe
My race weight is about 6600# with 1/4 tank of fuel. The tailgate, spare tire, jack & tools are 150#'s that I leave at home.
On the other hand, for truck pulling I'm about 7000# with a full tank of fuel and pulling hitch receiver.
