View Full Version : 6.0L Duramax?
Today's Autoweek has a review of the new GMT900-based Tahoe. They talk about the 5.3L motor and then say "a 4.8L V8 and a 6.0L diesel will be available later."
Anyone know anything about that?

The only GM diesel I know of that might be used in a Tahoe is the 4.9/5.0L V-6 Duramax. They've actually had this engine for more than 4 years, and at least one person here has seen it in a Suburban.... smile.gif
Initially spec'ed at 250 hp and 440 lb/ft of tq, which was the upper limit for the (at the time) current 4L80-E auto trans. Now, the 6L85-E can handle a little more.
We're hoping the diesel proponents at GM are successful in pushing the project forward. If they'd had a V-6 diesel option during Katrina's aftermath, they would have seen sales increases instead of a decline - all due to the fuel economy advantage.

I had my hands on one of those back in 2001.
I wish they would release it soon.

I bet we see the Two Mode before the diesel as an option.

Its not like I don't like my 05LLY, but if there was a lighter truck that had a payload of 2500 lbs, could tow 6-7 K and got over 20 mpg overall, I would probably have purchase that. The guy that tunes up my oil burner showed up with a new Van with a 5 cyl. Mercedes engine. His van was loaded to the gills and he said he always gets over 20 rural driving and it was designed for something like 500K. A chevy pickup along these lines, Duramax of course, would be interesting to me.
