View Full Version : Intake air temp
I am in the process of installing an intercooler and I would like to see what the air temp is before the install. My scan tool shows at normal unloaded driving my air temp is about 170 degrees after motor has warmed up. What do you folks get?
If you are going for baseline comparisons, hook up a heavy trailer and head for the hills. Your intake air temp goes up dramatically as boost increases. The intercooler will be most benefical on long hard pulls not short bursts on flat ground with minimal boost. It will be one of many modifications you will regret not having done sooner.

That's about par for my K3500 drw on a 95deg day, unloaded.
Without charge-air cooler, same route, same temp, loaded, around 200-210deg.
With charge-air cooler, same temp, same route, it's around 105deg.
With charge-air cooler, same temp, same route, loaded, still around 105deg.
Always got to factor in radiator blast and engine heat, so 105 ain't bad.

Thanks for the reply guys. I bought an intercooler and piping kit from ebay. I'm in the process of making my brackets and cutting my pipes. I'm ready to see how well this is going to work pulling my travel trailer.
Cool, I am looking at IC on ebay now to do exactly the same thing. Which IC did you buy?

I purchased one from "Turboworks". It is an Ebay store. Type in this number 7956883820 in the search bar on ebay, this is the exact one I bought. I have it mounted now. The pipe kit is number 7958524916 from "Maxspeed-motorsports". I think that I need one more 45 degree elbow and coupling and then cut and install.
