And I have a question, does the tow haul mode let the tranny down shift from 6 to 5 like ours does from 5 to 4 and so on?

I have 600 miles on my 06 and the only difference in operation is like an other shift and 4 to 5 hundred RPM savings. 80 mph=2-2100rpm, 60=1500 rpm. We will see how the milage works out. So far only local travel and looking at 18 MPG. Truck feels real tight and is very smooth. Will pull a little next week and post some numbers.

The new trans has "Manual" mode where you can shift down or up at will using a switch on the gear lever. You cannot force an upshift. (It has a "stupid" limiter and won't downshift if you're going too fast) It also has braking downshifts like the earlier trans but only in tow/haul mode.

Jim All I can say is I hope the DIC is WRONG! I haveln't filled up yet, but it says about 14.5 at 80 and an average in 240 miles of 12.8. I will keep you informed after I fill up, and as it gets broken in. My 03 under the same conditions would get at least 16 average and 19 to 21 on the road depending on speed.
But I can say that this thing runs goooood! for a stocker.

The manual mode is easier for me, though, so I guess it's whatever floats your boat...

BTW, to date my DIS mileage computer has been right on the money. I got 20.9 on a 300 mile trip, relatively flat grades at 65 mph (winter 60/40 blend).

First tank city driving winter blend 15.2. DIC siad 13.2. Second tank city driving winter blend, 6 inch lift and 315's 14.4 (adjusted 15% to make up for the tires.)Dic says 11.8 average now.

Filling up again today and going on a 1200 mile trip this weedend, half pulling 24 ft. enclosed car hauler. I will let you all know what kind of mileage I get. (I know with the lift and tires it will be off a little, but we will see how much)

Well your milage will suffer with the big tires and lift.

Did you get the truck reprogrammed for the tires?

No I didn't get it reprogrammed, but I do know the corection factor is 1.15 times the actual odometer reading.

I just filled up again an hour ago, bad news 14.1.

Picked up my new LBZ last Monday,was only getting 17mpg (Canadian!)but I was showing off :D . Did a 400 mile trip on Sunday with flat land 65mph and took the tailgate off. Got 23mpg (19 US). Just have 1000 miles on it so I'm expecting it to get better. Just for info, truck is 2 wheel drive ext cab short box with towing mirrors and on the 400 mile trip I drove it very gently. Love the Stealth Gray!!

Fwiw, there was a study shown on tv about the
removing of the tailgate to increase mileage.
Two identical trucks driven until they ran out
of gas. One with the tailgate down and the
other up. The truck with the tailgate up went
further on a tank of gas. Their explanation
was that with the tailgate down, this caused
more wind turbulence/drag behind the cab.

I have seen these stories on TV and read about them. All done by reputable folks too. With my 1993 6.5 gate up 24, gate off 27+. I still drive this truck everyday and have 785,000 km (honest) on it so I have a wee bit of seat time with it. I don't know why but that's the way it worked out. If I leave the gate up I will THINK I'm getting worse mileage and sometimes that is the same as actually getting worse mileage. Someday a proper test to prove I've been wrong all these years????
