View Full Version : New (to me) Duramax
I just got an '02 Duramax with 20k miles on it and am looking for preventative maintnance suggestions. What filters should I cange now? What fluids? I am very interested in protecting this substantial invenstment. Any help is appreciated
If you're not sure of the maintenance history of the one you just got, you may want to just change all the fluids and filters out. It's easy enough to go thru all of them quickly. Front and rear diffs, trans and trans spin-on, fuel filter, oil and oil filter, xfer case. GL-5 rated 75-90 or 75-140 in the front and rear diffs. DexIII rated in the trans and xfer case. Any good CI rated diesel oil for the engine. Add a little grease to the 11 zerks and you're done. smile.gif
Forgot to add the air filter and the in cab filters too.

To add to (Hounds) list there are 2 filters mounted side by side inside the cab, use a small hook on a wire a couple of inches long, they are located just above the passengers left foot, remove a long plastic tray, the last screw is tough.
good luck

Hound,
You said there are 11 zerks. I have only been greasing the 6 in the front, where are the other 5? I want to make sure I get them all.
Thanks
