What brand of oil does the Chevrolet dealership use to change the oil in the Duramax? Do they use a synthetic? Will they give you a choice?
I would appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Thanks.
If I am not mistaken, it is Chevron, Delo 15W40. This is off of memory, from some older posts.
The brand used at any dealer is selected by the dealer. So long as the oil meets the CH-4 or CI-4 spec and the appropriate viscosity, it could be any brand. They usually buy it by the drum. My dealer in North Springfield Vt. uses Texaco Ursa oil. It is not synthetic. Some dealers may give you a choice between synthetic and conventional oil. However, never accept oil that does not have the API CH-4 or CI-4 ratings.
If you want a particular oil and the dealer does not stock it, most dealers will install your oil you bring in and it meets the API standards.

My dealer uses Chevron, Delo 400, 15W40. And recomends no other.
My dealer uses Mobil 1 Delvac 1300 which I believe to be a good choice. I also have faith in Delo 400, but I do my own changes with Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic. --Nick

K1XV...
I believe the recommendations are for CG-4 and CH-4.... (going by memory)correct me if I am wrong.
My 2003 Duramax Diesel Supplement says CH-4 or CI-4. I don't think there was a CI-4 when your 2001 owners manual was published.
