View Full Version : Just what does it take.....?

What does it take to make a mid to low 13 second pass? About 463 HP. All diesel, just boxes. Maybe some tranny help as well. :D

The Duramax stole the show at BD Dyno days, not only beating out all the Fords and Dodges for highest HP, but, at the strip as well.

1/4 13.63@100.8mph
60' 2.103

4wd, 4 door ----> 6750lbs

You can see by the 60' that we were spinning quite a bit off the line. Drop these down to about 1.8 (where they should be) and we have a 13.3 pass. We made almost 6 passes on Friday night and then followed it up on the dyno on Saturday.

Also note, its probably not a good thing to plug the wastegate for the extra 15psi (No HP gain). Turbo was hurt from overspeed at the track and got destroyed during a burnout (explosion :eek smile.gif .

These trucks can easily make it into the 12s.

Wow Christian...

I took the liberty of posting the good news on a couple of "other" boards.

I heard a long time ago that the weak link in the turbo is the clamp ring that holds the two halves together. Heat weakens it. Any truth to that?

Christian was the line plugged or was the lever turnbuckled closed. Every one I have seen pop the line was plugged on. I have never seen the clamp in the center fail yet.

To answer your question 'King D', we now offer an Allison transmission upgrade. Although they are available in a limited quantity due to the QA time involved. They are still available.

The wastegate line was unplugged. The maximum pressure the turbo saw was 40 psi at the wastegate hose.

"King D" ATS also makes Tranny mods, Kennedy sells them. I am lucky enough to live in Colorado where ATS is and I am getting the level 1 installed this Friday. :D

At the moment, the ATS setup is not getting the job done. I'm told that there is an update to come, but as of now, I have really strong 1-4 gears.

I will say that you don't know what you are missing until you lock up that converter and hook up the clutches! The RPM drop is MUCH greater between gears. Just need to hook up 5th gear and give the thing some manners...

How can that be?

It's says right on ATS's website....

"Installation of the ATS Level 2 kit for the Allison 1000 transmission will enable you to get your Duramax power to the ground with no tranny slippage!" ;)

I supposedly have a unique situation where my clutch(s) are coming on before the offgoing clutch(s) can evacuate...

Faster hydraulics?

Dunno, but all I can say is that 1-4 are excellent and until you have a transmission that "hooks up" and locks the converter in, you have no idea what the true RPM drop between shifts is.

I have a few things to check out in the mean time...

Unless you have a handshaker, of course, then you get to replace the flywheel, which is on backorder. go figure. :D
