Just a line to let you know what the problem was with the 2000 dually that died on the road.
Apparently the starter went bad, bearings etc. and there were 6 dead glow plugs. Since the starter couldn't crank very fast, 2 live plugs wouldn't do the job.
So, new starter, set of 8 plugs, the thing is running like a charm. Dealer replaced plugs under warranty, replaced starter at his cost. (no labour charge!)
Pretty decent of him, since the truck was bought privately.
