I've owned crewcab d/a since 6-03.(18,000miles) my mileage has been the same since day 1. best tank 16.8mpg, worst tank 13.8mpg, ave 14.5mpg. this is while driving while not pulling. I've read and heard of mileages as high as 22 mpg. I do have 265 tires on, and realize this will bring mileage down. The tires are the only upgrade for now, any ideas to improve mileage and not lose any HP?

Rick,

I think that you can increase performance AND mileage.
There are endless addons but in my opinion 2 of the most important are increasing air intake flow and increasing exhaust flow.
The diesel needs lots of air and the less restriction the better as long as you do not compromise clean air.
I put an amsoil air filter on, swiss cheese my filter box(look for in search), and installed a 4" exhaust....I almost straight piped her.
Other than that I put an edge juice on and have never regretted it.
I think the juice is not only for power but I do believe that it makes Dmax and Allison downshift less and increases the mileage.
Just my .02 FWIW

Best Regards,

Mark
PS I get16mpg around town, 19-20 on the road not towing anything.
I get 12-14 towing my 8K lb. 5ver, and 9-10 towing more tons of hay than I should.
I also have 265's.
Good luck

I get about 16mpg around town, but mine is a dooley. I think those high mileage numbers are for the 2500s. I did break 20 mpg on the highway runnin' solo. And the cops seemed to be out in force so my speed was under 70mph. My mileage got better after 15K.

My truck currently gets 15 mpg in town and 18-18.5 on the freeway (80mph). If I drive slower, mileage goes up slightly. I noticed a 1 mpg drop after I put on the Michelin 265 tires - and, this is after recalculating for tire size. The OEM tires must be setup for mileage, however, would not go back - the michelins are wonderful.

I have 10K miles on my truck and I get between 17.5-18 mpg during my commute to work which is 50% city and 50% highway driving. This is about .5 mpg better compared to when it was new.

I'm at 24K miles and still see about 16 mpg - only hit 18 once. Pulling my new 5er (10,000 lb) on a recent 2500 mile trip I was getting 8 to 10 mpg.

I have 18K and get around 14.5 mpg in town and 20-21 on the freeway empty. I run 265s. I also have Juice on level 4. Addding the Juice didn't change my mileage.
