Anybody remove/block-off the intake resonator?

After a quick search, I found several threads about replacing the intake tract, but nothing about blocking off the resonator. Has anybody tried this? It seems it would create an awful lot of turbulence, and would flow better without it. How much noisier is the intake/turbo? Is there a downside to this?

2001 didnt have one,my guess is that its only to quiet down the turbo/intake noise! I dont see what it could hurt,not sure if it will help.It not drawing air out of the tub its acting like a sound deader.
