View Full Version : Normal Oil Pressure at idle?

Hey whats up everyone? I had a question: what is the normal Duramax oil pressure at idle? My trucks guage used to hover slightly under 40psi,now it's right above 20psi when idling. it still goes up near 80psi on full trottle. I have 32,000 miles and am running the juice on level 0 for daily driving and on level 4 once every couple months at the track. Can the dealer check this using a separate gauge? I hope that just the gage is screwed up,This thing has been very trouble free so far...........

25 psi with the motor idleing in gear after everything is good and warmed up is nothing to worry about. That's where mine sits after almost 70K miles of abuse on the clock. It doesn't use a drop of oil either.

When the motor is cold it will hit 75 psi cruising and when it warms up it runs just over 60 psi

30-35psi, hot idle, 15-40 oil at 36,250 miles. Dropped from 40psi, hot idle, at approximately 20,000 miles. Cold start 75-78 psi max. Has never indicated 80psi, even when new. Oil analysis (5) indicates no abnormal wear. I do not imagine that the gauge is very accurate.

Dealer can check with an external guage. This happened to me & in my case the oil sending unit is bad. New one will be installed Thur. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies to help ease my mind.This truck just seeems a little low on pressure compared to my 01. hdrider90 What was your gauge reading?

If I recall there was some thing about the 2003's haveing lower oil pressure ....like 50 psi going down the road? my 01 still has 75 hot at 2300rpm and just about 35 at idle warm... its got 68K on it now

Ya our '03 has about 60psi going down the road hot and not much more cold. They changed the gauge cluster in '03 but I never heard of them lowering the oil pressure in the engine.

Before I got this C/C my 01 was right under 40psi at idle and about 80 floored,Compared to this 02 I have now I was a little worried. If it still runs,don't worry right??!!
