What size filter wrench do I need for the fuel filter? Is 3 1/2 to 3 7/8 the right size?

Whiteknight, fuel filter cartridge is 4" in diameter.
I use the Craftsman rubber strap wrench when I need one, but typically, I R&R my own by hand.
The larger strap wrench is much better for stubborn filters.

I just changed mine on my '03 last week. I bought the rubber strap wrench from sears, but it would not work. I could not get the rubber strap between the filter and the block. I had to go to alternative 2..... big channel locks

Mike You will have to "unloop" it and thread it in above the center point then reloop it...

I use filter pliers made by K-D tools to remove mine.
I've been using these pliers for around 12 years now and I haven't run across a filter I can't remove with them. One size fits all.

Since replacing the original, I have put on and taken off 6 filters with no tools. Yes the first one leaked, so I go about 7/8 of a full turn, instead of 3/4.
I use a nylon strap wrench like the LISLE 63500 'BIG RANGE' FILTER WRENCH (http://www.lislecorp.com/tools/catalog/filters/index.htm).

You should be able to find them at Sear's or most auto parts stores.
