Order was just placed for a 2003 Silverado 2500HD and am waiting for dealer to find out if dual alternators are an option. I will only be towing a 6000lb boat and will be buying a cabover camper in future. Would duals be of any benefit to me or should I just go single and upgrade to 200 amp like mdrag did if it goes bad? It seems to me just another electrical device for gremlins to chew on.

Fishnfool,
Just my $.02 -- go with the dual alternator option. It is a cheap price for what you get and it offers excellent idle charging capacity. There is also the consideration that you have an onboard back-up alternator and or longer service life on the units due to the fact that they split the load between them.
Also as a lot of the other members will tell you there is a certain "Cool" factor involved with a special option. tongue.gif

ps: if you look you will notice that mdrag has dual alternators
