View Full Version : Copper Battery Cable ends?

I also posted this in the 6.5 section but thought someone over here might know.

I wanted to make new battery cables for my truck but can't find any crimp on copper battery terminals for side post.
If no one sells them then I will probably have to just buy complete GM cables.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you looked at a welding supply store? They have lots of kinds of ends for welding cables, and all you need is a lug with a 3/8" hole for the side-terminal bolts. I assume you already have, or will do, the battery bolt CONVERSION (http://www.thedieselpage.com/members/batterm.htm) shown in the Members Area of TheDieselPage.com. The even-more-elegant way is to use brass studs instead of bolts. Then you can tap auxiliary power off the stud with another nut, and the brass is more compatible with the copper lugs you want to use.

All the lugs I can find are like this http://www.cableaccs.com/lug1.jpg
Won't that be a problem with it only covering part of the battery connection?
If they would work ok, is it better to stack 2 of them at the passenger side battery + connection or would it be better to use a flag terminal and just strip enough of the cable for it and leave the cable one piece?

Or would I be better off to just get good top post connections? Like these (http://www.wranglernw.com/commerce/ShowCategory.asp?CategoryID=172)

You can't directly post internet sites on the forums but the site you should look at is www dot del-city dot net, if you get my drift.

Thanks for the website. They have some that look like they will work. (even made to stack so they should work good) Now I just have to find some cable so I know what size to order.

Why can't you post the whole url?

YOU CAN ALSO TRY WWW.WAYTEKWIRE.COM (http://WWW.WAYTEKWIRE.COM) THEY HAVE THE WIRE TERMINALS AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT, EVEN OEM TYPE CONECTORS.

The welding supplier I use makes terminal ends out of "K" type 1/2" copper tubing. If 1/2" is too big for your cables, try 3/8".
